Key Takeaways for What’s New in Apex Legends Season 17

  • Ballistic joins the other Legends as Apex’s newest Assault
  • The EVAC tower is the newest survival item added to the game
  • World’s Edge got a rework (again)
  • Weapon Mastery is a new system introduced into the game which tracks your mastery of each weapon

The Arsenal Patch, or as it’s more commonly known, Apex Legends Season 17 just recently dropped. As with all patches, it brought with itself a slew of changes. The different weapons and their stats have been rebalanced. Some of the Legends also received a rebalance, as well as a few new skins thanks to the battle pass.

However, the most significant changes that happened were the introduction of Ballistic, the new Legend in Apex Legends, as well as the rework of World’s Edge. Considering the fact that World’s Edge is the most beloved map in Apex, this may come as quite a controversial change for some players.

New Legend – Ballistic

Ballistic Apex Legends Season 17

Ballistic is quite an interesting addition to Apex Legends. His most prominent feature is his passive ability which lets him hold a third weapon. This third weapon however cannot take any attachments, as a way to prevent it from becoming overpowered.

His tactical ability sends out a shot that causes the enemies’ guns to overheat if they fire them for too long. Guns that have overheated, cause damage to the person holding them – pretty self-explanatory, right?

His ultimate grants his allies a faster reload speed, faster movement while armed, and, the best part – infinite ammo! It also upgrades his 3rd weapon to gold quality temporarily.

Considering how aggressive his abilities are, Ballistic is most likely going to end up becoming the best Assault Legend in the game. Only time will tell though.

World’s Edge Rework

World's Edge

World’s Edge also received a rework in Season 17. The most notable change happened to Fragment. Previously, it was the most contested part of the map, now with the new changes it’s likely to remain the most contested part of the map, just with different avenues of approach.

Harvester also received a facelift. Instead of being a bland bottomless hole, it’s now filled with lava, which gives it a nice warm shine.

There’s also a new area called Stacks that is just next to Big Maude. What was previously an unremarkable area with a few buildings scattered around is now an entire neighborhood filled to the brim with loot. Definitely a notable point of interest in Apex Legends Season 17.

Weapon Mastery is a New Thing

Weapon Mastery

Weapon Mastery is a new feature that is separate from your account level. It gives players the option to fulfill certain objectives that will progress their mastery level with a gun. These changes were instituted to make Apex more “beginner friendly” by rewarding players for playing the game and getting better at it.

On a side note. The firing range also got reworked and looks entirely different. Now you’ll have more options when practicing with a certain gun or Legend. By new options, I mean different circumstances to train in. There’s only so much you could do with test dummies and shooting targets after all.

New Survival Item: The EVAC Tower

EVAC Tower

This is one of the more interesting additions to Season 17. The EVAC tower is practically a portable Valkyrie ult. This gives players an alternative for when the ring is encroaching or if they’re caught in a bad position by an enemy team.

Will we be seeing less of Valkyrie now that her ultimate has become a consumable item? We’ll just have to find out in the coming weeks.

The Ping System Got Expanded

Ping System

Season 17 saw the introduction of the Avoid Area, Enemy Audio, and Regroup ping commands. Great for expanding players’ situational awareness. Now the only ping that’s missing is the “Don’t go there or you’ll die” ping for those reckless teammates.

New Map Rotation

Out with the old, in with the new. Storm Point and Broken Moon are taking a break this season, with Olympus and Kings Canyon taking their place instead.

Players who’ve missed those two maps will be overjoyed, especially fans of Kings Canyon, as it’s been a while since we’ve seen that map in rotation.

Those are all the notable changes in Apex Legends Season 17. See you in the arena!
