Smite Season of Souls

The latest update to Smite, Season of Souls, has brought in some pretty interesting changes that have left the community divided. However, let’s start with the basics first.

Now, it wouldn’t be a Smite update without the inclusion of a few new skins now, would it? So, let’s start with those first.

Do you hate playing alone? Most people do. If that’s the case, then you should definitely check out the Z League app. Its LFG feature will help you find a gaming buddy in no time!

New Skin Releases in Smite Season of Souls

Smite Season of Souls Fenrir Skin

Update 10.6 has ushered in some pretty epic skins I must say. My personal favorite one is the Alpha Pack Fenrir skin (pictured above). However, Fenrir isn’t the only God who received a new skin in this update. The other new additions are:

  • Ra – Spicy Ra-Men Ra
  • Cthulu – Angel of Chaos Cthulu
  • Cupid – Little Charmer Cupid
  • Ullr – National Treasure Ullr
  • Sol – Hot Rod Racer Sol
  • King Arthur – Demonic Blade King Arthur
  • Vulcan – Soul Hammer Vulcan
  • Loki – Shadow Spawn Loki
  • Chernobog – Ruby Ravager Chernobog

The New Event – Colorforge: Prism of Souls

Cupid Little Charmer Skin

This event brings in dyes that will allow you to change the color of certain skins. Additionally, Cupid’s Little Charmer skin can be unlocked for free by simply participating in the event and completing quests.

The event will come with its own Color Forge Chests, which you can either earn or purchase. Oh, and don’t worry. Smite isn’t pay-to-win, so the only things you’ll be getting from those chests is some cool new cosmetics.

The New Battle Pass – Dark Dominion

As always, with a new seasonal update comes a new battle pass. This one is called Dark Dominion, hence the reason why most of the new skins are so “morbid” looking.

This battle pass costs the usual 800 gems. There’s also a plus variant of the battle pass that’s available, however, that will cost you an additional 600 gems, or 1400 gems in total.

Smite Now Runs on Linux … Yay?

Linux players will be happy to hear that Smite now runs on Linux. I don’t know anyone who would play Smite on Linux, but, hey, this one’s for you!

Gamers that play on Linux are something like the mythological Unicorn, you have to see one with your own eyes to believe it.

New Features and Reworks

I’m sure this is the part that everyone was anxiously waiting for. Smite’s Season of Souls has introduced quite a substantial amount of changes, and, a new mechanic to boot. So, let’s start from there.

The New Mechanic – Soul Surge

Soul Surge is the newest mechanic that was introduced into Smite with the Season of Souls update. This mechanic is active regardless of the game mode you’re playing.

In short. Soul Surge is an effect that appears whenever a God dies. The area where the God perished will begin surging with spirits and spawning Spirit Minions which attack indiscriminately. Any Gods in the area gain an increase in their Movement Speed and damage dealt against low-health opponents.

What’s more, if another God dies while Soul Surge is active, then the Soul Surge will expand even further, even if the perished God isn’t in it. Once it’s over, a global Soul Surge cooldown timer begins.

This mechanic will obviously make team fights all the more devastating. And considering that Smite already has a relatively fast time-to-kill, this new mechanic might be a bit much.

Changes to Conquest

Conquest also received a slew of new changes. The first and most minor change is the slight alteration of the middle lane. As of 10.6, the middle lane is a bit wider and closer to the solo lane, as well as a few minor pathing changes.

However, the new map mechanic is where the fun is at. Stygian Beacons are now a thing. This is a special location marked on the map that will activate exactly 3 times throughout the course of a match.

The team that manages to capture it in time will get a permanent boost till the end of the match. But, the real fun begins after the 3rd capture. After the 3rd capture, the Titans in your base become unleashed.

Your Titans will select the lane that has the most structure health remaining and begin marching down that lane, eventually clashing in the middle. Don’t worry though, if your Titan gets defeated this way you won’t lose the match. It just gets teleported back to base where it has to sit in humiliation.
