Key Takeaways For What Are the Different Smite Game Modes

  • Conquest is the most popular
  • Arena tends to be the fastest game mode
  • Joust is the only game mode that’s 3 v 3 players

The beauty of Smite is in its different Game Modes. Those very game modes are the reason why Smite has survived and thrived for so long. A game that is afraid to try out new things is not a healthy game. Smite, however, does not shy away from trying new things, as new content is constantly being added, be it new Gods, new Skins, or even new Maps.

Smite has 5 game modes that are constantly available and 1 “extra” game mode that is usually available for a limited time. This extra game mode brings along with it something that is out of the ordinary, a special rule, a catch, or a unique goal that the teams have to achieve to win. Smite isn’t a game that takes itself very seriously, that fact becomes more than apparent once certain event game modes become available.

Before we continue, you might want to hear about the Z League app; it’s the best place to find like-minded gamers to play the games you enjoy.

The Different Smite Game Modes

Smite Game Modes

As we mentioned before, Smite has 5 game modes that are constantly available, these are Conquest, Arena, Assault, Joust, and Slash. There is also a special limited-time game mode available sometimes, this special game mode usually has certain rules altered. Imagine URF mode from League of Legends but in Smite.

Of the basic game modes, Conquest is the most popular, it’s also the first game mode in Smite.

Conquest Mode in Smite

Conquest

Conquest is the most popular of all the game modes in Smite, it’s the “traditional MOBA map”. You have your three lanes with their respective towers, you have your jungle with its respective monsters, and you have the end goal which is the Titan. To win the match you either have to destroy the enemy’s Titan or force them to surrender.

Conquest tends to be the longest game mode, with matches usually lasting well over 30 minutes. The different roles of the Gods are more prominent in Conquest than in the other game modes. In a game mode like Joust, the lines between the roles become blurred, here however that’s not the case, as you always have your Solo Laner, your Jungler, your Mid Laner, and your Support and Carry.

The meta in Smite is usually derived from the different Gods’ performance in Conquest, as a result, the best Smite Gods are decided by their performance in Conquest.

Arena Game Mode in Smite

Arena

Arena is probably the 2nd most popular Smite game mode. It’s quite a simple concept actually, which is why it’s so fun. Arena pits 2 teams of 5 players in a small arena, the rules are simple, drank the enemy’s tickets before they drain yours.

Because of the small map, this game mode tends to be faster than Conquest, you don’t usually see Arena matches lasting past the 20-minute mark. Warrior Gods like Nike are particularly good in Arena as they’re great for starting engagements… and ending them promptly.

Assault Game Mode in Smite

Assault

Assault is a similar concept to Arena, except that in Assault you have a single lane to fight in, instead of an open arena. Leveling is faster in Assault than in the other game modes, understandable since matches usually don’t last longer than 20 minutes.

This game mode is great for players who just want to get in there and have some fun. In Conquest, you have to be meticulous if you want to win – in Assault, you can be as reckless as you deem fit. If you’re killing the enemies and pushing the lane, then you’re doing just fine.

Joust Game Mode in Smite

Joust

Joust is the “digest version of Conquest”. You have a single lane, just as in Assault, however, you also have a jungle to farm in. As such, the lines between the different roles become blurred, however, certain classes excel more than others in this game mode.

Take Arachne for example, or any Assassin for that matter. Assassins dominate Joust because of the relatively small map, and because of their ability to quickly get around the map and initiate engagements.

One more thing to mention about Joust. Unlike the other game modes which are usually 5 v 5, Joust is the only game mode that’s 3 v 3, so choose your Gods wisely!

Slash Game Mode in Smite

Slash

Finally, we come to Slash. Slash is an amalgamation of all the previous game modes. Slash is a 5 v 5 game mode, it’s set on a unique map with 2 lanes and jungle camps. Another unique feature of Slash is that it emphasizes the Mayan and Egyptian pantheons.

The goal of Slash is just like the other game modes, you have to get the enemy Titan before the enemy gets yours. Usually, Slash games don’t run for longer than 20 minutes.
