Rampage LMG: Apex Legends Weapon Guide

If you want to go on a rampage in Apex Legends, then the Rampage LMG is the best tool for the job.

Whenever I think of the Rampage LMG I think of all those cheesy hallway scenes in action flicks where the main hero is mowing down droves of enemies as he slowly walks down the hallway while firing his weapon.

The Rampage LMG: A Sucker Punch of a Machine Gun

It’s no secret that the Rampage is the hardest-hitting machine gun, combined with its decent performance at range, you get a tool that is quite versatile. But… there’s a catch. Because it has the highest damage per bullet of all the machine guns, to counteract that, it has the slowest fire rate of the machine guns as well. This can be improved slightly with its Revved Up mechanic, but only for a short time. By consuming a Thermite Grenade, you can effectively increase its fire rate for a short period of time. It’s especially useful if you get into a close-quarters engagement. But, unless you’re playing as Fuse, that would mean that you’d have to carry with you a lot of extra Thermite Grenades, which just isn’t feasible sometimes.

The Stats of the Rampage LMG

Now let’s see why the Rampage is king.

In the words of Patrick Bateman, “Impressive, very nice.” You don’t want to get hit by a burst from this thing. Considering that it has a slower fire rate than usual, that means that the spread is also more controllable as well. You may also argue that this gives you more of a chance to land more rounds on target, but hey, that depends entirely on how good of a shot you are.

The Attachments for the Rampage LMG

When it comes to attachments, the Rampage LMG isn’t very special. Here are its attachments:

  • Barrel Stabilizer
  • Extended Heavy Mag
  • Standard Stock
  • 1x Holo
  • 1x HCOG “Classic”
  • 1x-2x Variable Holo
  • 2x HCOG “Bruiser”
  • 3x HCOG “Ranger”
  • 2x-4x Variable AOG

Ideal Rampage LMG Set-Up

For starters, grab an Epic Barrel Stabilizer first. Follow that up with an Epic Standard Stock. Then, grab either a 2x-4x Variable AOG or a 3x HCOG “Ranger”. Finish off your build by equipping a Legendary Extended Heavy Mag.

Ammunition isn’t really a priority for the Rampage as much as making it a stable firing platform. You’ll ideally be taking fights at range with this thing, so locating a barrel stabilizer and a scope should be your main concerns. After that, do everything at your discretion.

Does the Rampage LMG Even Deserve That Title?

With its slow rate of fire, many people like to claim that the Rampage is barely a machine gun. Compared to the Devotion, it practically feels like a musket. But here’s the thing, it doesn’t have to be universal! That is why Apex Legends allows us to have 2 weapon slots, so that we may mix and match different combinations of weapons. The Rampage excels at medium-ranged combat and should be used as a last-resort weapon up close (which in my experience, it also does exceptionally). And in your second slot, you can have something that’s great at close-range, like the C.A.R. SMG.

No weapon is universally good, and no weapon should be, as that would take away from the fun. The most fun you can have in this game is by experimenting and trying new things out. Different weapon combinations are just one of the small ways you can do that.

Potential Balance Changes for the Rampage in the Future

As it currently stands, the Rampage is decent, to say the least. Although it desperately needs an increase in its fire rate. Potentially in the future, we might see such a change, an increase to its fire rate, but at the cost of damage per bullet.

Alternatively, we may see its Revved Up bonus increased to at least match the fire rate of the Spitfire, but then again, that might make it a bit too overpowered. So, as the old saying goes, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
