Devotion LMG: Apex Legends Weapon Guide

Whenever you use the Devotion LMG, you can faintly hear Rambo screaming into your ear. Cheesy 80s one-liners aside…

The Devotion LMG is a pretty interesting gun, it’s an energy light machine gun, like the L-Star. And just like the L-Star, it has its own mechanic (why do energy weapons always have a gimmick to them?). The Devotion, similarly to the Havoc, needs some time to reach its full rate of fire. Unlike the Havoc though, it fires from the get-go, increasing its speed the longer you hold down the fire button.

The Devotion LMG: For When you Want to Roleplay as Rambo

If you want to roleplay as Rambo, then there’s probably no better weapon than the Devotion. It has an impressive magazine size, an even more impressive fire rate, and a total disregard for anything in its cone of fire.

This, as with all things, is a double-edged sword. Yes, you will be firing a lot of lead down range (do energy weapons even shoot lead?). But on the other hand, that means you will be chewing through ammo at an alarming rate. So, if you plan on picking up the Devotion, make sure you’re playing as an Assault Legend, or Rampart, to get the most out of the gun.

Stats of the Devotion LMG

Now let’s see what all the commotion is about.

Not good. The Devotion LMG has the lowest damage per bullet of all the LMGs. If you were to compare it to the Rampage, for example, the damage per bullet is almost half of what the Rampage can do. But, on the other hand, it has three times the rate of fire. So, funnily enough, even though the Devotion has the lowest damage per bullet of all the LMGs, it ends up having the highest DPS.

Attachments for the Devotion LMG

The Devotion is one of the few weapons in the game that has 5 attachment slots, those are:

  • Barrel Stabilizer
  • Extended Energy Mag
  • Standard Stock
  • Turbocharger
  • 1x Holo
  • 1x HCOG “Classic”
  • 2x HCOG “Bruiser”
  • 3x HCOG “Ranger”
  • 2x-4x Variable AOG

Ideal Devotion LMG Set-Up

For starters, find a Legendary Extended energy Mag ASAP. Following that, grab an Epic Barrel Stabilizer. And after that, locate an epic Standard Stock. Avoid equipping a Turbocharger. For sights, grab either a 1x-2x Variable Holo or a 2x HCOG “Bruiser”.

The reason you want to avoid the Turbocharger is that it ultimately lowers your DPS for a small reduction in the amount of time required to reach the full rate of fire. In the end, it’s not worth it, as the difference is negligible, unlike with the Havoc. And for optics, you want to stay with something close range. You’re definitely not going to be having long-range engagements with this thing, so get the optic that you prefer for close ranged engagements.

Can the Devotion LMG Compete Against the Rifles?

This is a question that a lot of players ask, along with, “Is it worth picking the Devotion over an assault rifle?” Here I’d argue, yes, absolutely! The Devotion LMG has a fire rate comparable to a lot of the assault rifles, and even on par with some of the submachine guns. On top of that, it has a respectable damage per bullet. The final selling point is that it far outmatches any of the assault rifles when it comes to magazine capacity. With the assault rifles, you’ll be running dry after a second or two, while the Devotion gives you at least a few seconds of concentrated fire at your disposal.

The only area the Devotion is lacking in is its medium-range engagement capabilities. That and ammunition economy. So, if these two things are a dealbreaker for you, then go with the other options.

Potential Balance Changes for the Devotion LMG in the Future

For the longest time, Energy Weapons have been stuck with the worst burst damage potential of all the weapons in Apex Legends. But with the introduction of the Nemesis Burst AR, things seem to have finally changed for Energy Weapons. Yet, even with that, the stigma against Energy Weapons remains. A minor change that could make Energy Weapons more viable would be to bump up the damage per bullet of the Devotion by one or two. That would definitely cement its place as the undisputed king of the LMGs.
