What Kind of Game is Armored Core 6 Going to Be

when is Armored Core 6 coming out

Armored Core 6 is the latest entry in the Armored Core series, a full decade after the last Armored Core was released. So, what will the game be about?

The game’s Steam page describes the game as “A new action game based on the concept of the ARMORED CORE series that uses the knowledge gained from FromSoftware’s recent action game development.” Whatever that means.

Here’s what’s important though. Armored Core 6 won’t be “Dark Souls but with mechs,” much to the disappointment of some fans. Instead, the game will stick to its mech combat roots, with a few soul-bourne features sprinkled here and there.

In Armored Core 6, you’ll have the ability to customize your mechs however you see fit. On top of that, you’ll also be at liberty to explore its huge world however you may please. When it comes to combat, the focus is placed on fast-flowing combat, instead of the methodical lumbering of other mech games.

This is the main difference between Armored Core 6 and other mech games like Mech Warrior 5, for example. Instead of feeling like you’re in a lumbering giant that’s making its way across the battlefield, you’re in a mecha that’s designed to break natural laws with ease as you soar across the skies.

Why Has Armored Core 6 Been in Development for So Long?

Armored Core 6

Armored Core 6 was originally announced back in September 2016 by FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki, after which, everything basically went radio silent. So what happened in the meantime?

In the meantime, FromSoftware was working on their Dark Souls Remaster, as well as the much-acclaimed Elden Ring. So, it wasn’t like they were just sitting there and twiddling their thumbs the entire time.

We finally got some news, albeit, unofficially, in January 2022, when the game leaked during a focus test. After that point, it was only a matter of time until an official announcement followed, as the clamor from the fans kept getting louder and louder.

And in December, we finally got it! During the Game Awards 2022, it was revealed that Armored Core 6 was being directed by Masaru Yamamura, known for his previous work on Sekiro. Turns out, a new Armored Core game had been in the works for a long time, it just lacked the proper funding to take off the ground.

Its winds finally turned favorable in 2018 when the game entered its prototyping stage and was able to secure the funds it needed for its further development. After that, it’s all history. We’ll just have to wait till August 25th to see how everything turned out.

In the meanwhile, why not try out some of the games that came out in July? It sure beats having to wait till the end of August.
