Who is Dizzy?

Coby Meadows, better known as “Dizzy” was the first Apex Legends big star. He quickly rose to fame as he showcased his exceptional skills and impressive gameplay to thousands of viewers worldwide.

In the early days of Apex Legends, Dizzy was often referred to as the best Wraith player in the game. He was known for his incredible movement and accuracy, making him a force to be reckoned with in any match he played. He quickly became a fan favorite and his streams were always highly anticipated.

Since Apex Legends was released back in February 2019, there was one specific player who was breaking every record in the game, and that was Dizzy. He became so popular that he often played with big streamers like NRG King Richard or Shroud. Eventually, he joined NRG himself, becoming the first Apex Legends player to sign with a professional team.

Not too long after that, King Richard invited Dizzy to join him and Fortnite’s biggest streamer, “Ninja,” for Twitch Rivals, the first Apex Legends event. Ninja’s team, Team King Canyon, won the first Apex Legends tournament with 355 kills and 13 wins (for 65 points), adding up to a final score of 420. The event was basically a kill race, but the real star wasn’t any of the big streamers; it was Dizzy.

At this point, Dizzy was so popular that in less than two months, he went from an average of 36 viewers per stream to over 16,000 in March 2019, creating a huge fanbase that loved him because of his attitude. He was not like other streamers who had an over-the-top attitude, raging at other players, or creating any kind of drama. Instead, he was an actually likable person with not much of an ego who was great at the game.

Dizzy’s Face reveal

After being in the spotlight as the most viewed Apex Legends streamer, he was at the peak of his career. But with such high success also came a lot of negative comments, and all this hate came to its most awful form with Dizzy’s face reveal.

On March 16th, 2019, Dizzy’s face reveal stream was scheduled, and in front of an audience of over 40,000, he appeared with a mask, joking about not showing his face. But only moments later, he removed the mask and started playing.

There is something that not too many people talk about when it comes to streamers, and it’s the “pretty privilege” that exists in streaming. Some streamers lose half of their viewers when they turn on their cameras just because they’re not considered good-looking.

The moment Dizzy took off his mask, there were immediately thousands of hateful comments towards how he looked, comparing him to all kinds of things and being completely offensive. Most streamers grow step by step, learning how to deal with hateful comments as they grow. However, this did not happen with Dizzy. He grew more than 10,000% in only a matter of days and therefore was not prepared for so much hate.

Did Dizzy’s Face Reveal Ruin His Career?

We don’t know for sure, but ever since that day, Dizzy went from streaming more than 200 hours per month to only about 50 in March of 2019. The next few weeks, Dizzy barely streamed, and it all came to a breaking point on April 13th when TwitchCon was held. This would be Dizzy’s first time competing at an actual organized in-person professional event for Apex Legends, and this time, haters and trolls would get a good look at him.

Ever since that day, the comments and memes about him would not stop. Some comments were so awful that we don’t want to show them here. Until eventually, it happened…

Dizzy’s Retirement

Dizzy announced that he was taking a break from streaming and professional gaming. He cited burnout and the need to take some time off to focus on his mental health.

Despite his break from streaming, Dizzy continued to play Apex Legends and participate in tournaments. However, he did not return to streaming until October of 2020, over a year and a half after his initial break.

When Dizzy did return to streaming, he was met with a warm welcome from his fans, who were excited to see him playing Apex Legends again. However, things were not the same as they had been before his break. Dizzy’s skills had diminished somewhat and he was no longer the dominant force in the game that he had once been.

Where is Dizzy Today?

Today, Dizzy is still an active streamer and content creator. While he may not be the dominant force in Apex Legends that he once was, he remains a respected player and a beloved figure in the gaming community. His story serves as a reminder of the importance of taking breaks and prioritizing mental health, even when it means stepping away from something you love.
