Mechabellum Sledgehammer Guide

Mechabellum’s Sledgehammer is quite aptly named. It’s barely mobile, it’s heavy, and it leaves quite the mark once it gets into shooting range… if it gets into shooting range.

You can’t have a Sci-Fi RTS without an iconic tank. Starcraft has the Siege Tank. Dawn of War has the Leman Russ, and Mechabellum has the Sledgehammer.

Do you hate playing alone? Most people do. If that’s the case, then you should definitely check out the Z League app. Its LFG feature will help you find a gaming buddy at a moment’s notice.

Key Takeaways for Mechabellum Sledgehammer Guide

  • Sledgehammers are the best frontline unit
  • Even though your Sledgehammers have generally high survivability, they aren’t invincible – support them appropriately
  • Sledgehammers are excellent at taking out Mob units and can perform decently well against certain Squad units.

The Sledgehammer and its Upgrades

Mechabellum Sledgehammer Guide

Sledgehammers are the best frontline unit in the game. They’re designed to be durable, and formidable against multiple unit types, exactly the type of characteristics you’d want in a frontline unit. Leave the supporting role to the Stormcallers. Sledgehammers mean business!

Field Maintenance is the first tech upgrade available to the Sledgehammer. It increases the unit’s maximum Health Pool while also regenerating a certain percentage of its Health every second. This effect remains active even if the unit is taking damage.

Damage Sharing links all of your Sledgehammers together. If one model takes damage, then that damage is dispersed throughout the entire unit. This upgrade also greatly increases the unit’s maximum Health Points.

Mechanical Rage increases the Movement Speed of all of your Sledgehammers while also decreasing the interval between each of their attacks.

Range enhancement does as the name implies. It enhances the Attack Range of your Sledgehammers by 40 meters.

Electromagnetic Shot gives your Sledgehammers the Electromagnetic debuff. I.e. whenever they attack an enemy, they apply the Electromagnetic debuff. This debuff dramatically slows down the afflicted enemy and also disables their tech upgrades.

Armor-Piercing Bullets greatly increases the Attack Damage of your Sledgehammers but at the cost of an increased interval between each attack. This upgrade really should be called Armor-Piercing Shells but I digress.

Armor Enhancement is the final tech upgrade available to your Sledgehammers. This upgrade increases your unit’s defenses. Specifically, it gives them a “shield” that can absorb 60 points of damage. This shield increases with subsequent level-ups.

The Strengths of the Sledgehammer and How You Should Use It

Fang

Sledgehammers excel at taking out Mob units. For example. A single fusillade from your Sledgehammers is enough to wipe out ¾ of the models in a unit of Fangs. That’s how effective they are!

This capability, combined with their generally high survivability makes them an excellent unit to put at the very forefront of your formation. They’re superb counters to Zerg rushes, and are decently well-armored to be able to hold the line while your supporting units mob the board.

That being said, they’re not invincible. Eventually, even your Sledgehammers will buckle without the proper supporting units. Ideally, something like a unit of Stormcallers or even a couple of units of Marksmen

The Weaknesses of the Sledgehammer and What You Should Avoid

Steel Ball

Every unit in Mechabellum has a particular weakness, and that goes for the Sledgehammers as well. Your most direct counters are Steel Balls. They’re fast, relatively cost-effective, and designed to take on units that have a high amount of health and defense, like your Sledgehammers for example.

An even more cost-effective way to take out Sledgehammers is Wasp spam. It can’t be overstated enough just how effective Wasp spam is against certain units, especially if you’ve neglected to get any sort of anti-air units to support.
