Wingman

Key Takeaways for the Wingman

  • It’s a powerful weapon that shouldn’t be overlooked
  • It’s probably the best pistol in the game
  • It’s effective at multiple ranges
  • Even though it takes sniper ammo, it shouldn’t be used as a sniper

The Wingman, a compact package that carries a lot of weight and may be one of the most underrated and fun guns in the game. However, since the meta always prefers weapons that are fully automatic, the Wingman usually gets left in the dust. The Wingman is a bit unusual in that it’s about the closest thing we have to a revolver, it’s just strange that it uses sniper ammo.

The Wingman: Ol’ Faithfull

The Wingman comes in a small package that can put out a big punch and remains competitive at a variety of ranges. Whether you’re bringing it to a close-quarters fight, or a long-range standoff, it will serve you well. Let’s take a look at why it’s so good.

The Stats of the Wingman

Here’s what it can do.

As can be seen from the table, this gun is no laughing matter. It has one of the highest damage per round in the game, which only gets boosted further by increasing a Skullpiercer Hop-Up.

Attachments for the Wingman

This thing surely can’t get any better, can it? Oh yes it can. Here’s what you can attach to the Wingman:

  • Extended Sniper Mag
  • Skullpiercer Rifling
  • 1x Holo
  • 1x HCOG “Classic”
  • 1x-2x Variable Holo
  • 2x HCOG “Bruiser”
  • 1x Digital Threat

It sadly cannot equip a lot of attachments, and, in reality, it doesn’t really need to, as the base package is already quite solid.

Ideal Wingman Set-Up

In ideal circumstances, this is how you should go about setting up your Wingman during the match.

Start by finding a Legendary Extended Sniper Mag. Follow that up with a Skullpiercer Rifling Hop-Up, as there is simply no downside to equipping it. In the end, go for a scope that you prefer. Usually, I’d recommend the 1x HCOG or the 2x HCOG, but for the Wingman, I actually recommend the 1x-2x Variable Holo or the 1x Digital Threat. You’ll probably be using the Wingman in close-range engagements most of the time, as that is where it’s the strongest. However, it is also quite a potent weapon even at range, and the variable scope makes it much easier to hit enemies at farther ranges.

The Wingman Compared to the Mozambique

The closest thing to the Wingman would probably be the Mozambique. I mean, what else would you compare it to? The P2020? Nonsense! In many regards, both weapons are similar. Both are primarily used in close-ranged engagements, both are often overlooked, and both will most likely cause serious wrist injuries if fired.

Even though there are many similarities between these two guns, the Wingman is definitely the superior of the two. For starters, it has a higher damage per round than the Mozambique, and it can reach targets farther than the Mozambique. Most importantly though, the Wingman is actually a viable gun and not just something that you hold on to until something better comes along. You wouldn’t replace the Wingman for a Sentinel, as you would the Mozambique for an EVA-8 for example.

Potential Balance Changes for the Wingman in the Future

The Wingman is a pretty solid weapon platform, it isn’t overpowered and it isn’t underpowered, so it most likely won’t be “touched up” much in the future. But, if it did, it would most likely get its damage per round rebalanced. A rework isn’t very likely but isn’t out of the cards either.
