What does Ashika Mean in Warzone 2’s Latest Map?

Fans of Warzone have been patiently waiting for the release of Warzone Season 2 and the new Resurgence Map (Or, ‘Tactical Map’, as they’re calling it now). The new map has been revealed to be Ashika Island, a map that takes significant inspiration from feudal Japanese architecture and art design. It’s clear that the island also carries a Japanese name — but what does Ashika mean?

Ashika roughly translates to “sea lion” in Japanese. Other than a playful name, does it carry any significance in the Call of Duty universe? We’re not really sure at this point on whether the name has any special meaning.
