Valorant Sova: Key Takeaways

  • Valorant Sova skills: Owl Drone, Shock Bolt, Recon Bolt, Hunter’s Fury.
  • Your goal on Attackers as Sova: Gather information, set up the attack, and clear corners.
  • Your goal on Defenders as Sova: Delay pushes with Shock Dart, get early information using your abilities, and help retake using Recon Dart.
  • Always use your Recon Dart when it’s available.
  • Use your Recon Dart and Owl Drone combo to clear the site for your team.

Sova is one of those agents that work best if you have multiple lineups prepared. He’s a fun yet challenging Initiator agent that can sometimes feel like having wall hacks if you have the right lineups.

Take a look at the tips and tricks we have in our Valorant Sova guide.

Use Your Recon Dart as Bait

Our first tip is to use your Recon Dart as bait. Any Valorant player’s first instinct when they see a Recon Dart is to either shoot it or hide from it. You can take advantage of this, especially when you know where enemies are located.

Shoot your Recon, and then get ready to peek or push your enemy. This trick is especially useful in 1v1 situations where you have nothing else to worry about. Just be careful, though. Some players counter your Recon by peeking you instead.

Play Back and Clear for Your Team

As an Initiator, your main role is to assist your team by clearing corners and checking angles. Sova is one of the best at this, ever since the start of Valorant. So taking aggressive or early duels won’t benefit your team.

Using your Recon Dart or your Owl Drone before your Duelist enters the site is the perfect way to get an advantage for your team. Dying during the first few seconds of a round leaves your team without an Initiator to help clear deeper angles. So make sure to play back and let the Duelists like Jett or Reyna do their thing.

Communicate With Your Team

As a Valorant Sova player, you have access to tons of information whenever you use your ability. You should then communicate that information to your team. Become the main leader and IGL for your squad.

Don’t be afraid to ask your Duelist to trade your Owl Drone or follow up your Recon Dart. Your utilities are useless if you don’t capitalize on the information you gain, so be active and be vocal.

Use High Surfaces to Boost Your Owl Drone

Your Owl Drone can only reach a set height limit because the higher up it flies, the more it can see. However, one thing that not a lot of Valorant Sova players know is that the height limit is based on the objects underneath the Drone. This means that the limits are extended if you’re flying beneath a tall object.

You can use this to your advantage by flying over tall objects to reach higher limits and view more. Things like trees, arches, walls, and boxes are just a few things you can use to extend your Owl Drone’s height limit.

The Best Ways to Effectively Use Sova When Attacking

  • Use your Owl Drone to gather information about the enemy’s position.
  • Use your Recon Bolt to help your Duelists enter sites.
  • You can use your Shock Bolt to force enemies out of hiding.
  • You can use your Shock Bolt to delay spike defuses, especially if you have lineups.
  • Use your ultimate to get early picks, slow pushes, or delay defuses.

The Best Ways to Effectively Use Sova When Defending

  • Use your Shock Bolt to delay rushes.
  • Gather early information.
  • Try to get early picks with your Hunter’s Fury.
  • Use Shock Bolt lineups to defend ultimate orbs.
