The Shorty: Key Takeaways

  • The Shorty costs 150 credits.
  • The Shorty has a primary fire that fires 15 pellets in a spread.
  • It’s a sidearm that deals 2-10 (leg), 3-12 (body), and 6-16 (head), per pellet, depending on the distance.

The Shorty is the only shotgun sidearm in the game. It’s also the cheapest weapon in the game, excluding the free Classic, of course. The Shorty is definitely built for very close-range combat and nothing else.

Luckily, it does its job well and can one-shot an enemy if you’re close enough and if you aim well enough. Check out our Valorant weapon guide about the Shorty to find out more about the weapon.

The Shorty is a short barrel shotgun, hence the name, that can deal insane damage at close range. It can be used to catch enemies off-guard and has the possibility to one-shot full HP enemies at 0-7m if most of your pellets hit.

Unfortunately, the Shorty is quite literally useless at distances above 15 meters. Its damage significantly falls off, and its 15-pellet spread makes it very difficult to hit enemies.

It’s also quite tricky to have lengthened fights using the weapon because of its 2-shell magazine size. However, it definitely works great as a secondary weapon to a more powerful ranged weapon like the Operator.

The Basic Stats

The Shorty has a headshot multiplier of x2, a leg shot multiplier of x0.85, a 7-15m falloff multiplier of x0.667, and a 15m+ damage falloff multiplier of x0.25.

It also has a fire rate of 3.33 rounds/sec, reload speed of 1.75s, and a magazine size of 2 with 10 reserves.

Here are the basic damage stats:

  • 0 – 7 meters – Head (24)
  • 0 – 7 meters – Body (12)
  • 0 – 7 meters – Legs (10)
  • 7 – 15 meters – Head (16)
  • 7 – 15 meters – Body (8)
  • 7 – 15 meters – Legs (6)
  • 15 – 50 meters – Head (6)
  • 15 – 50 meters – Body (3)
  • 15 – 50 meters – Legs (2)

The data above assumes that the optimal amount of pellets hit for each shot. However, realistically, it should take way more than 2-5 shells to kill enemies at ranges above 15m.

Best Ways to Use the Shorty

The best way to use the Shorty is at close-range battles. It’s perfect for those eco rounds where you can’t buy much. You simply sit in a corner with a Shorty in hand and surprise your victim as soon as they come close. You can also do a jumping shot with this to increase your chances of catching the enemy off-guard.

The Shorty is also best used as a secondary weapon when you’re using long-range masters like the Operator, Marshall, or even the Guardian. It’s a great way to keep yourself safe in those close-range battles while still holding onto powerful long-range weapons.

Overall, the Shorty is good at one thing, and one thing only, close-range surprise attacks. It’s one of the best weapons you can buy during a save round because it doesn’t cost much and will almost always guarantee you a kill as long as you can play those close corners.

For the most part, I wouldn’t recommend buying a Shorty during your Pistol round unless you have a specific plan in mind. It might work if you’re using an Agent like Chamber and have a few shots of Headhunter, but I still wouldn’t recommend it that much. You’re mostly better off buying more utility instead.
