G7 Scout: Apex Legends Weapon Guide

The G7 Scout offers a solution for when the enemy is just outside throwing range, but not far enough to garner the use of heavy artillery.

I’ll be honest, I love the G7 Scout. It scratches an itch that I didn’t know I had. As with all guns, the G7 has also had its ups and downs, but, regardless of that, it has remained one of the most fun guns to pick up during a match.

The G7 Scout: A Boomstick for More Civilized Men

Seeing as the G7 Scout is a marksman rifle, that means it is designed for engagements that are mid to long-range. If you somehow manage to get into a close-quarters engagement with this thing, then I’d begin praying long before I start shooting, as something has gone horribly wrong.

Among its brethren, the G7 is unique in that it utilizes Light Rounds. This is unusual as most weapons that use Light Rounds usually excel at close-quarters engagements, like the R-99 or the R-301 for example. With the Scout, it’s the exact opposite. Yet, even with all its differences, it still has the mark of a weapon that uses Light Rounds. Mainly, it has the fastest fire rate of all the marksman weapons. This is further increased by installing a double tap Hop Up. Once you have that, this thing becomes a nightmare to deal with.

The Stats of the G7 Scout

Now let’s take a look at what this thing can do.

Not the best, but, then again, not the worst either. Its base damage per bullet is ok compared to most guns, but lacking compared to the other marksman weapons. But then again, this problem can entirely be eliminated by simply installing the Double Tap Trigger. After you’ve installed a Double Tap Trigger, then this thing becomes a different kind of beast. It already has the fastest firing rate out of all the DMRs, but with its Hop Up, it leaves the rest of its brethren in the dust.

Attachments for the G7 Scout

The Scout is unique in that it has 5 attachment slots, these are:

  • Barrel Stabilizer
  • Extended Light Mag
  • Sniper Stock
  • Double Tap Trigger
  • 1x HCOG “Classic”
  • 1x Holo
  • 1x-2x Variable Holo
  • 2x HCOG “Bruiser”
  • 3x HCOG “Ranger”
  • 2x-4x Variable AOG

Ideal G7 Scout Set-Up

For starters, finding a Double Tap Trigger is the utmost priority, after you have that, find a 2x-4x Variable AOG or a 3x HCOG “Ranger” as soon as possible. Follow those up with an Epic Barrel Stabilizer, and then an Epic Sniper Stock. In the end, you can grab a Legendary Extended Light Mag.

Sadly, the Scout is hampered by the fact that it can’t equip that many scopes. Having a 2x-4x Variable AOG is good, but it isn’t great, especially considering the gun’s potential. But hey, c’est la vie.

Is it Worth Taking the G7 Scout Over a Sniper Rifle?

This is a debate that’s been raging on in the community for about as long as the game has been out. On one side you have players claiming that, since most engagements are either long-range or close-range, it’s pointless to bring a marksman weapon, as snipers will almost always excel at range more than a DMR. On the other end, you have players who swear by the DMRs. The versatility that these weapons offer you is too good to just pass up.

So, where’s the truth? As always, somewhere in the middle. Yes, it’s a fact that snipers will always beat marksman weapons at long ranges, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t perform well at long ranges, especially when no other weapon is available. And even in close range, the DMRs are great. It only takes a few well-placed shots from the Triple Take and the G7 Scout to take down an enemy. That can even go for the Bocek as well, although it can be a bit unwieldy, especially if it’s your first time using it.

Potential Balance Changes for the G7 Scout in the Future

As it currently sits, the G7 Scout is in a pretty comfortable position. Although, one change that we could potentially see in the future is the removal of its Double Tap Trigger Hop Up in favor of some increased damage per bullet. Seeing as it already has an impressive fire rate, this kind of change isn’t too absurd to consider.
