The Overpass Map
Overpass is one of the oldest maps in CS:GO. It was released back in 2013 and quickly became a community-favorite map. It wasn’t a classic map or a simple one. That’s what made it stand out. It has a unique theme, a solid layout, and could cater to numerous different playstyles.
Overpass wasn’t Dust 2 or Mirage. It was something different. It was special. To this day, Overpass remains an iconic map within the Counter-Strike World. Luckily, it was one of the chosen maps to migrate over to CS2.
At first, CS2 only had Dust 2 and Mirage. It slowly added more and more maps to the mix as the beta grew longer. However, on July 17, 2023, things changed when Overpass was finally added to the game.
CS2 Overpass Map Rework
Overpass is the first map from the “Overhauls” category of map updates in CS2. Touchstone maps featured lighting changes and upgraded visuals. This included both Dust 2 and Mirage.
Upgrades were a bit more robust. They had overall better visuals, upgraded textures, and improved lighting. This is where Nuke in CS2 comes in.
Finally, were the Overhauls. This was the group that was set to receive the most changes out of every map. They were effectively reworks where almost everything was changed, from lighting to textures to even layouts in some cases. It aims to modernize the old maps of CS and usher them into the new CS2 era.
This is where Overpass comes in. It was a fantastic Overhaul that brought a ton of life back into the map. It features a ton of new design elements, new structures, new paths, and new textures. Of course, we can’t forget about the amazing lighting, the added details, and the new graffiti art found on the map.
Overall, the core identities of Overpass are still there. This means that most CS:GO players won’t have to adjust much to the new map.
Other Updates That Came With Overpass
The CS2 Overpass map rework wasn’t the only thing that Valve added to the game in the July 17, 2023 patch. They also added the Wingman game mode. Vertigo was also added, which remains mostly unchanged aside from the Source 2 engine updates. However, Vertigo was only added to the Deathmatch and Casual game modes.
Here are a couple of the other minor improvements and quality-of-life updates found within the patch:
