It’s no secret that we’re big fans of co-op games over here at Z League, (did the featured image give it away?). Single-player games are fun and all (Skyrim is my all-time favorite game actually) but there’s only so much modding you can do before it gets repetitive. So, why not get a friend and try out one of the games we’ll be talking about today?
Our Picks for the Best Co-Op Games
For starters, we have to mention:
Apex Legends
Apex Legends is probably one of the most fun co-op games on the market right now, and here’s why.
With the ability to choose from a variety of Legends and a plethora of guns, you can guarantee that no two matches will be the same. Now’s the best time to get into the game, as season 16 has just hit. To get started, you might want to check out our article on the 5 best legends for beginners.
The game has the perfect blend of action and exploration that makes for the perfect co-op experience.
Do you Need a Buddy to Play Co-Op Games With?
Of course, to be able to play co-op games you need to have a few friends first. Finding a group of friends has never been easier before than with Z League’s Team Up app. Simply download the app and create a profile, and you’ll be moments away from finding a buddy that’s just as excited as you to play the game!
Valheim
Of course, if you’re looking for something that has a slower pace, then Valheim might be the right game for you.
Valheim is a co-op game based on Norse mythology. It has base-building, survival, and exploration mechanics that are sure to challenge even veterans of the survival genre. So, in essence, it’s the perfect co-op experience. Get a buddy, build your base of operations, and go out into the world and create an epic tale worthy of a Norse saga.
The base building in this game is probably some of the best there is in gaming nowadays, with its only rival maybe being the Forest. But, hey, who knows? Maybe with the release of Sons of the Forest, everything will change.
Mortal Kombat 11
Sometimes you love your friends… Other times, you want to introduce a hard object to their face.
Well, Mortal Kombat 11 lets you do just that. The Mortal Kombat series is renowned for its entertaining gameplay. Over the years it’s become a party staple. If there’s a console at the party, and it has Mortal Kombat 11 on it, then you know that everyone is gonna want to get their hands on a controller. There’s just something so entertaining about beating your friends senseless (in a game), that is so entertaining.
It Takes Two
When it comes to story-driven co-op games, then this game definitely takes the cake.
It Takes Two has been lauded as one of the best story-driven co-op games of all time. The game looks fairly innocent, which has garnered many critiques that it’s “childish”, but I’ve yet to hear someone critique the game after they’ve played it. Fans of the Toy Story series are sure to love this game even more.
So, If you’re the type of person who wants a relaxing, yet fun co-op experience, then grab It Takes Two with your friend/s and give it a spin. You definitely won’t be disappointed by the experience.
Portal 2
When it comes to masterpieces, there’s probably not another game studio that has as many in its repertoire as Valve does.
Portal 2 has constantly been ranked as one of the best co-op games for a good reason. The co-op campaign for Portal 2 puts you in the shoes of Atlas and P-Body, two loveable robots that must work together to overcome the obstacles that GLaDOS throws at them.
What’s unique about this campaign is that, while playing as either Atlas or P-Body, you’re restricted to only one color on your portal gun, this forces you to work together to overcome the challenges. Unlike other co-op games which simply throw you into the world and allow you to cooperate with other players at your discretion, Portal entices you to collaborate and play to your strengths. As well as teaching you to cherish your differences.
