Key Takeaways For Resources in Apex Legends

  • Most of the resources can be earned without investing any money. However, it’s much easier to do so if you do invest money
  • There are three basic resource types: Crafting Materials, Legend Tokens, and Apex Coins
  • There is one special resource: Heirloom Shards

Unlike some other games, there aren’t that many types of resources in Apex Legends. However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t bother earning them, as practically anything can be bought with them (in-game I mean, I don’t think the black market accepts legends tokens).

The only resource we will not be taking a look at today is XP, because that one has its own articles dedicated to it; check out the fastest ways to level up in Apex Legends and what is the maximum level in Apex Legends respectively if you’d like to know more.

Download the Z League app, where you can register for tournaments, post your highlights, and find teammates using the newly improved LFG feature! More details here!

Without further ado, let’s take a look at what sort of resources you can earn in Apex Legends.

The Different Types of Resources in Apex Legends

Resources in Apex Legends

There are three basic types of resources in Apex Legends, these are Crafting Materials, Legend Tokens, and Apex Coins. Other than these three you also have Heirloom Shards and XP.

Crafting Materials in Apex Legends

Crafting materials are your most basic type of resource, you get them by reaching certain milestones in a given event or by acquiring them through Apex Packs.

These are great as you can use them to purchase most skins in the game for the low low price of completely free! We recently did an article on the best skins for the R-301, the good news is that, if any of the skins on there caught your eye, you can easily buy them with Crafting Materials without having to spend real money.

Legends Tokens in Apex Legends

Legend Tokens are the resource that you use to unlock new legends and to reroll dailies for a second and third time.

Now, I don’t know any madman who would so frivolously spend Legend Tokens like that, as they are quite precious. It takes 12.000 Legend Tokens to unlock any of the Legends, so spending them unnecessarily is just delaying the amount of time it takes before you unlock the full roster.

Apex Coins in Apex Legends

These are the premium cash-shop resource of Apex Legends. With Apex Coins, you can practically buy any item that’s currently in the shop as well as Apex Packs (if you have a pension for gambling, that is).

You can also earn Apex Coins by playing in events, although the process is quite slow and grueling. That’s understandable seeing as it’s a premium currency; no developers will allow you to have the exact same benefits as a premium player if you’re just a free-to-play player.

Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends

Heirloom Shards

Heirloom Shards are a bit different than the other resource types in Apex Legends as they are exceedingly rare and difficult to acquire. Yet, that’s what makes them so special. We’ve talked about heirlooms in the past when we ranked the best Apex Legends Heirloom in the past, so let’s just give a quick recap on what they are.

Heirloom Shards are the resource you use to craft Heirloom items for a certain legend. These give that legend a unique melee weapon and unlock parts of their story. Heirloom Shards have a 1% chance to drop in any Apex Pack. You don’t need me to tell you how exceedingly low that is. There’s a failsafe installed, however. If you open 499 Apex Packs without getting any shards, the 500th pack is guaranteed to give you 150, which is coincidentally how much is required to craft an Heirloom.
