Diablo IV is just a few months from release, and after the open Beta, we have a lot more of an understanding of how the game will work including the crafting system. Gear and weapon crafting is especially important for more powerful builds that can carry you to the endgame. Let’s take a look at how the crafting system works in Diablo IV and how to go about making the best gear possible.

Key Takeaways:

  • Use the Blacksmith to craft weapons and armor.
  • The Occultist handles all your Aspect needs.
  • The Jeweler can install slots into your weapons for more enhancements.
  • The Alchemist is used for upgrading Potions.
  • Share your best-crafted weapon on the Z League app for others to see.

Diablo IV Crafting Guide

There are four key artisans that you will need to unlock to utilize the crafting system to its fullest; they are as follows:

·  The Blacksmith, unlocked at level 10

·  The Alchemist, unlocked at level 10

·  The Jeweler, unlocked at level 20

·  The Occultist, unlocked at level 25 or complete the first dungeon

The Blacksmith is for crafting weapons and armor and is one of the earliest artisans to unlock. The Blacksmith can also upgrade your weapons and armor, making them more powerful by increasing the item level. The Alchemist, which is new in Diablo IV, is here to handle all your Potion needs. You can also use the Alchemist to upgrade your Potions to Elixirs by bringing the right materials. The Jeweler specializes in Rings and Amulets, and he can also add or remove sockets from weapons and gear. Adding a socket will allow you to place a gem and will increase the attributes of the item.

The Occultist is one of the most important artisans since he will grant you access to enhancing your weapons and gear through Aspects. He can also reroll some of the attributes on a piece of gear that you weren’t quite happy with. For example, if you roll +20 dexterity and the max is +80, you can pay the Occultist to reroll for a higher dexterity or choose a better modifier.

How to Make Legendary Gear

Let’s run through how you might use some of these artisans to create a powerful endgame weapon. First, we suggest working with a Rare item instead of a Legendary one since Rare items are easy to improve and more cost-effective. You can upgrade it to Legendary after some key modifications. Use the Occultist to change/reroll any attributes you don’t like on the item. This is under the “Enchant Item” feature from the Occultist. Next, take your weapon or piece of gear to the Blacksmith and upgrade it as far as necessary to get better stats on your specific item. This will increase the item level. Now you must select the Legendary Aspect that will synergize well with your build and your character. Note that putting a Legendary Aspect on a two-handed weapon will double its effect and make you truly unstoppable. When you are ready, destroy the item that currently holds the Legendary Aspect that you need from the “Extract Aspect” menu from the Occultist. Then go to “Imprint Aspect” to put it on your chosen weapon or item. This will make your item a Legendary item. Note that you can use the Codex of Power to imprint Aspects, but those will be much less powerful than the ones you extract from other items. Lastly, you can visit the Jeweler to add a socket for a jewel that will increase the weapon’s DPS or whatever might make sense for your build.
