Smite Assassins Guide

Welcome to our Smite Assassins Guide. Assassins are the most high-risk, high-reward class of Gods in the game. I.e, they're the most fun to play.

Assassins in Smite are the definition of “glass cannon”, they hit like a truck, but die if someone so much as sneezes in their general direction. Because of this characteristic, Assassins are the most high-risk, high-reward class there is in Smite. Playing an Assassin is probably the most fun you can have in the game, it does however come with its own slew of challenges.

Most of the challenges can be overcome by simply altering your play style a bit. One of the things that usually ends up killing newer Assassins players is when they play Assassins with the wrong mindset. An Assassin isn’t a Warrior, and neither are they a Hunter. Sure they might have many similarities in common, but in the end, they’re entirely different classes. As such, they require entirely different play styles to be effective. For Assassins, that’s usually “hit the enemies, don’t get hit yourself.”, easier said than done I’m afraid.

What Kind of Playstyle Do Assassins Have in Smite?

If it wasn’t apparent by now, Assassins are glass cannons. Because they are glass cannons, you should avoid prolonged engagements at all costs, you’re there to do a lot of damage in a short amount of time, the longer you stay in an engagement – the worse it gets for you.

Take Arachne for example, we talked about Arachne previously in our Smite Arachne Guide. Coincidentally, Arachne is also one of the best Smite Gods as well. But why is that? That’s because Arachne is the perfect example of what an Assassin should do. She has the right set of abilities that allow her to get in, do a lot of damage, finish off any isolated opponents, then get out as fast as she came in.

In a sense, Assassins are melee Hunters. Both classes are squishy, and both can do a lot of damage in a relatively short time. The thing that usually sets them apart however is the fact that Assassins tend to have more abilities that are geared toward ambushing opponents. It’s this characteristic that makes them the perfect junglers.

What Roles Can Assassins Fulfill?

Assassins really only shine in two roles, as Junglers, and as Carries. Although, the former is more common than the latter. The reason for that is actually quite simple, it’s the fact that Assassins don’t have the ranged advantage. If you put up an Assassin versus a Hunter in a lane, 9 times out of 10 the Hunter will dominate the Assassin in the early game. Assassins need some time to acquire their full roster of abilities, so until they do just that, they usually get slapped around by the Hunters.

That’s the reason why Assassins usually run as Junglers. As a Jungler you have the liberty to farm till your heart’s content. You can begin ganking only after you’ve unlocked all the abilities that you require. But once you do, you become a nightmare to deal with. Especially if you’re ganking a lane with the support of a Guardian, there’s nothing quite as devastating as the synergy between an Assassin and a Guardian.
