Quad Cannons (Primary Fire)

Wrecking Ball’s Quad Cannons have 80 ammo and are most effective at short to medium range. The ammo depletes quickly, so players should aim to maximize their effectiveness with short engagements where reloading isn’t necessary.

Roll

True to his name, Wrecking Ball can transform into a rolling ball, which decreases the size of his hitbox and increases his movement speed. To take advantage of Wrecking Ball’s mobility, players should look to use Roll as much as possible whenever his Quad Cannons are not in use.

Roll also prevents enemies from headshotting Wrecking Ball, meaning he takes less damage while in Roll form. Upon entering Roll, Wrecking Ball’s Quad Cannons begin to reload in the background. If he spends two seconds in Roll form, the ammo of Quad Cannons is replenished. Abilities like Reinhardt’s primary fire and Orisa’s Javelin Spin have more of a knockback effect if Wrecking Ball is in Roll form.

Grappling Hook

Grappling Hook allows players to hook onto a surface and grapple across the map. When momentum is gained and Grappling Hook is active, Wrecking Ball enters into a fireball, which damages enemies and boops them whenever contact is made. Grappling Hook is a difficult ability to master, but allows Wrecking Ball to become arguably the most mobile character in Overwatch 2. Grappling Hook has a five second cooldown, which begins when Grappling Hook is released from a surface.

Piledriver

When above the ground, Piledriver slams Wrecking Ball onto the ground in Roll form, regardless of the form he was in when he used the ability. Piledriver deals between 20 and 100 damage to enemies, depending on how close they are to him. Piledriver also launches enemies into the air, allowing teammates to follow up on the ability’s burst damage.

Adaptive Shields

Adaptive Shields grants Wrecking Ball 100 extra health for every opponent within a 10 meter radius. The cooldown of the ability is 15 seconds, and any extra health gained lasts for nine seconds or until depleted by enemy damage.

Adaptive Shields allow Wrecking Ball to engage clumps of enemy players in a somewhat safe manner. Due to the duration of the ability, Wrecking Ball can use Adaptive shields, disengage, and return to the fight with the shields still active.

Minefield (Ultimate)

Minefield deploys a field of explosives around Wrecking Ball which deal 130 damage each. The mines take 1.25 seconds to activate. If Wrecking Ball is on the ground, Minefield deploys in a tight formation. If in the air, the mines spread out before hitting the ground, resulting in a less dense but larger radius.

Minefield can be used in a variety of ways depending on the situation. Due to its long duration of 20 seconds, it can be used to keep enemies away from the objective. The mines are difficult to clear for most characters due to their small hitbox and how many of them spawn, though certain tanks such as Doomfist and Reinhardt have abilities which can easily clear the field.

Wrecking Ball has a variety of tools to get maximum value from his ult. If Minefield is deployed and then Piledriver is used, enemies may be unable to escape the field before the mines activate due to the forced vertical movement from a successful Piledriver hit. And of course, Wrecking Ball can use his Grappling Hook to boop enemies into the mines. Since they deal so much damage, two mine explosions is enough to kill damage (DPS) and support characters. Tanks are also vulnerable to the mines due to their large hurtboxes, which makes it easy for them to accidentally run into multiple mines at once.
