Echo Key Takeaways

  • Echo’s best maps provide room for vertical mobility, allowing her to use her movement abilities to strafe enemy fire and find opportunities for kills.
  • Echo’s worst maps are those with long sightlines, as she is unable to close the distance and can easily get picked off by other damage (DPS) heroes.
  • Echo is countered by hitscan damage (DPS) heroes due to her reliance on vertical mobility, but skilled Echo players can often play around just one counter on the enemy team.
  • Echo counters stationary heroes, especially those with vertical mobility, because she is able to choose her engagements and take minimal damage setting up beneficial angles.

Echo Quick Tips

  • Echo has 200 total health, with no armor or shields. Her narrow and short hitbox makes her harder to hit than many other heroes.
  • Echo is a high skill floor hero, meaning new players may struggle to get value from her kit. Consider practicing in Quick Play before entering Competitive.
  • Echo’s unique playstyle can often make her a burden on inexperienced teammates. Download the Z League app for free to find competent teammates who know how to play around a good Echo.

Tri-Shot (Primary Fire)

Tri-Shot is a quick projectile weapon that deals 17 damage per bullet and 51 damage per total shot. As a projectile, Tri-Shot has no damage falloff, but the increased spread over distance makes it most effective at short- to medium-range. Tri-Shot becomes more difficult to hit the more the enemy team strafes.

Sticky Bombs

Sticky Bombs lets Echo shoot a quick round of six bombs which stick to any enemies they encounter. Each bomb deals 30 damage, with all six able to deal 180 damage very quickly.

The burst potential with Sticky Bombs makes it one of Echo’s most important abilities. Hitting all six sticky bombs is difficult, but doing so can nearly instantly kill most heroes in the game, such as Baptiste and Mercy.

Flight

Flight allows Echo to move vertically as well as horizontally, similar to Pharah, with a small boost applied when the ability is first activated. The maximum duration of the ability is three seconds, and can be canceled at any time. With a short cooldown of six seconds, skilled Echo players should look to maximize Echo’s mobility through the use of Flight, rather than playing her as a grounded hero. Flight can also be used to chase down enemies; although it does not provide a movement speed buff, it allows Echo to fly over obstacles and create a line of fire to the retreating enemy player.

Focusing Beam

Focusing Beam does 50 damage per second. If the target is below 50% total health, Focusing Beam does 170 damage per second. Due to the damage increase on enemies with low health, Focusing Beam should be used primarily as a way to finish off weak enemy players. Echo can quickly kill unsuspecting enemy players through a combination of Tri-Shot, Sticky Bombs, and Focusing Beam.

Duplicate (Ultimate)

Duplicate transforms Echo into a player on the enemy team. While in Duplicate form, her ultimate charges 6.5x as fast, allowing her to frequently get another ultimate after using Duplicate. Duplicate restores Echo’s health and copies the selected enemy player’s total health, with a maximum of 300 total health, even on tank heroes.

Duplicate is best used to copy heroes that can quickly build ultimates, such as Lucio and Ana. Since Duplicate copies a tank’s hitbox but not their total health, tanks should be copied only in niche situations, such as when their space-making abilities will be useful to win a teamfight. Duplicate can also be used on damage (DPS) heroes, assuming Echo will be in a position to deal damage and build an ultimate with the copied hero. Overall, Duplicate relies on a strong understanding of the overall game of Overwatch 2, as Echo players need to know how to play a variety of heroes, and understand when copying each respective hero is an optimal play.
