Nintendo Direct was held on February 8th and included announcements and reveals of new games, release dates, and remasters. We break down the top 5 announcements from the event.

New The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom trailor

Its been almost 6 years since the release of the critically acclaimed Breath of the Wild and fans have been eagerly awaiting its sequel. That wait ends in just a few months, and hopefully the newest trailer released during Nintendo Direct makes those few months go by quicker.

Metroid Prime remaster

It was announced that not only was the 2002 hit game Metroid Prime being remastered for the Switch, but it was now available! The 5th installment of the Metroid series is one of the best selling Game Cube games of all time, with over 2.8 million copies sold. The remaster will feature both new duel-stick controls, as well as a control setting to mimic the feel of the original controls. Along with being available now in the eShop, physical copies will be available on February 22nd.

Pikmin 4 release date

Nintendo Direct including the reveal of the Pikmin 4 release date, along with a look at the game’s world and gameplay. A new Ice Pikmin will be available to assist in your journey, along with a dog-like helper named Oatchi. The Ice Pikmin can freeze water and enemies, while Oatchi can move obstacles and carry you and your Pikmin. The game will be released on July 21st, 2023.

Game Boy games coming to Switch Online

Nintendo announced that Game Boy and Game Boy Advanced games will be available to play on the Switch through Switch Online, starting February 8th. All Switch Online subscribers will have access to Game Boy games, while Expansion Pack holders will also have access to Game Boy Advance games. Players will be able to play locally, or online with friends.

Splatoon 3 DLC

A paid Splatoon 3 expansion pack announced during Nintendo Direct, and will be available Spring 2023. The expansion pack will be released in 2 parts, with the first part taking players back to Inkopolis from the original game. The second part will include a new single player campaign called Side Order.
