There are few feelings in the gaming world as electrifying as the anticipation of a new release in a beloved franchise. The echoes of virtual gunshots, proximity chat taunts, and tales of multiplayer conquests are already buzzing in our ears. And, for fans of the Call of Duty series, this sensation is currently at its peak as we eagerly await the launch of Modern Warfare 3.

When will Modern Warfare 3 be released?

Activision has gotten into a habit of releasing a new title in late October / early November on annual basis – it’s pretty much like clockwork at this point. Modern Warfare 3 will be no different.

The launch date for Modern Warfare 3 is Friday, November 10th, 2023. It was officially confirmed by Activision in August in the X Post below:

When is the Modern Warfare 3 Open Beta?

Open Beta days will differ by platform. It looks like PlayStation players will be getting first dibs (could this be an appeasement to Sony for the acquisition tension?).

  • PlayStation Early Access: October 6-7
  • PlayStation Open Beta: October 8-10
  • Xbox & PC Early Access, PlayStation Open Beta: October 12-13
  • All Platforms Open Beta: October 14-16

Will there be a Warzone 3?

While it’s likely that there will be another edition of Warzone eventually, it doesn’t look promising at this time that Warzone 3 will be released at the same time as Modern Warfare 3 as we’ve yet to see any credible announcements or leaks on the matter.

It’s also entirely possible that Activision decides to make Warzone 2 into the longer term ‘engine’ and provide smaller updates from year to year to keep in step with the latest campaign and multiplayer content. Now that the original Warzone, Warzone Caldera has been sunsetted, Activision can freely use the ‘Warzone’ name. After all, they aren’t afraid of confusing players with reusing the exact same name for their titles (recall that the MW2 and MW3 names have already been used in the past).

Who is developing Modern Warfare 3?

Sledgehammer Games, a name synonymous with the CoD community, is the studio behind MW3. Not only did they create the original Modern Warfare 3 and Advanced Warfare, but they’ve also been involved in numerous other titles in the series. While Infinity Ward is lending a hand in certain game components, other renowned CoD studios such as Treyarch (known for Black Ops 3), Raven Software (the brains behind Warzone), and Beenox (the creators of Black Ops Cold War) are also contributing.

What is Modern Warfare 3 Zombies?

In the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the iconic Zombies mode, traditionally set in past eras, steps into the contemporary world, bringing with it a fresh take on bioterrorism threats.

A teaser from Activision, combined with insights from developers Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games, reveals a continuation of the Dark Aether narrative. Victor Zakhaev, the notorious arms dealer from Warzone, now markets a perilous purple mist that transforms its victims into zombies. The responsibility to counter this menace lies with Task Force 141, featuring renowned operatives like “Soap” MacTavish and “Ghost” Riley, alongside a veteran from Black Ops Cold War, Sergei Ravenov. Players will join this elite team in Operation Deadbolt, a CIA initiative designed to curtail the zombie apocalypse, described by Activision as an “open-world PvE extraction survival experience,” reminiscent of the cinematic world of World War Z.

Given the ‘PvE extraction’ moniker, it’s likely that Zombies will be replacing the development effort of DMZ mode that was introduce in MW2.

What is the Modern Warfare 3 Campaign about?

Modern Warfare 3’s campaign picks up where the 2022 rebooted Modern Warfare 2 left off, introducing a new timeline. The narrative features the return of the iconic Call of Duty antagonist, Makarov, who is set to wreak havoc globally. Although this Makarov differs from the one in the original trilogy, his past ties with Price and Task Force 141 will be a focal point. Under Makarov’s command, false flag operations are executed, falsely implicating Farah’s Urzikstan Liberation Front and Task Force 141.

Players will navigate through both perspectives: Makarov’s Konni Force and Task Force 141, witnessing the moral complexities of war. Key characters include Captain John Price, Vladimir Makarov, Farah Karim, and several others. Alex, a main character from Modern Warfare 2019, remains conspicuously absent from the new title’s previews.
