The Overlord and its Upgrades
The Overlord is an excellent all-around unit, regardless of what you face it up against. It’s got great health, great range, the ability to attack both ground and air, amazing damage, and incredible utility thanks to its different upgrades.
Overlord Artillery “unlocks” the two massive cannons at the prow of the ship. These cannons only attack ground units, however, they deal massive damage and have amazing AoE. The damage they do also scales with the level of the unit itself.
Launcher Overload increases the Overlords attack rate but at the cost of its range.
The Mothership upgrade makes the Overlord produce 4 Wasps every 28 seconds. The damage these Wasps can do is negligible at best, however, they’re pretty good for cannon fodder.
Jump Drive increases each Overlord’s movement speed. It also allows you to reposition your Overlords wherever you’d like at the start of each round.
Photon Emission reduces the damage taken by allied units within 100m of the Overlord. It also gives them temporary immunity to any electromagnetic, igniting, and acid attacks.
Range Enhancement does as the name implies, it enhances the range of all of your Overlords.
Armor Enhancement increases the HP of your Overlords and gives them a limited amount of armor, the armor also scales with the unit’s level.
Field Maintenance regenerates a percentage of your health each second, even if you are currently taking damage.
High-Explosive Ammo increases your Overlord’s splash damage range but at the cost of reduced damage overall.
The Strengths of Overlords and How You Should Use Them
Overlords are strong against whatever unit you put them up against, however, they love to pray on defenseless ground units the most. Ideally, something like the Crawler.
What’s more, with the right upgrades, you can further specialize your Overlords to the situation at hand. Are enemy air units giving you trouble? Get the Range Enhancement upgrade. Are your Overlords the only units standing at the end of a round? Grab the Field Maintenance upgrade and they’ll survive just long enough to destroy all your remaining opponents.
The Overlord even has an answer to its strongest counter – Melting Point. All you need to get is the Mothership upgrade. That way, Melting Point has to target each individual Wasp before he can go after your Overlords.
The Weaknesses of Overlords and What You Should Avoid
If you know what you’re doing and have the resources, your Overlords shouldn’t have any noticeable weaknesses. However, if it’s early on in the game and your opponent is well-prepared – you’re going to struggle.
All it takes is one unit of Mustangs with the Aerial Specialization upgrade to ruin your day. If your plan is to spam Overlords early on, then facing up against Mustang spam is just about the worst possible outcome you can have.
