Key Takeaways for Mechabellum Crawler Guide

  • Crawlers are the Zerg rush unit of the game
  • Most units can counter the Crawler. But, considering that they’re expendable, you can easily just buy more Crawlers
  • Quantity is their greatest strength. If you’re planning in using Crawlers, get them in large quantities.

I must admit, I love the Crawler. Come to think of it, I love any unit that can be used to Zerg rush your opponents. It’s cheap, fast, expendable, and absolutely terrifying to go up against once it’s unlocked all of its upgrades.

That being said, it isn’t invincible. In actuality, probably half of the units that are currently in the game can counter it. And yet, therein lies the beauty of Zerg rush units. You never really “counter” them. As they just keep coming back in larger numbers the next time around.

In the end, the question you should ask yourself is this. Does the enemy have more bullets than you have Crawlers?

The Crawler and its Upgrades

Mechabellum Crawler Guide

As we mentioned before, the Crawler is a Zerg rush unit. That is the only capacity you should use it in, don’t expect too much from it, but don’t underestimate it either. When it comes to its upgrades, here’s what you can get.

Mechanical Rage is the first upgrade that you can get for the Crawler. It increases the unit’s movement speed while also decreasing the attack interval between each attack.

Replicate causes any units destroyed by your Crawlers to turn into Crawlers themselves. Does this mean that the Crawler is a zombie? I leave the answer to that question to your imagination.

Subterranean Blitz increases your Crawler’s movement speed and causes them to submerge underground if there are no enemy units in 40m of them. While submerged, your Crawlers take less damage from all sources.

Acidic Explosion makes your Crawlers leave a puddle of acid at the location of their death. Enemy units that walk through these puddles take damage and have their defenses reduced.

Impact Drill increases your damage output by 200%.

The Strengths of Crawlers and How You Should Use Them

Crawler Strengths

Crawlers are a direct counter to Single-Entity units that suck at taking out large mobs of units. These are your Melting Points, your Marksmen, and your Hackers. They’re also quite effective at taking out Fangs as Fangs are generally an inferior unit to the Crawler.

You should also use your Crawlers to flank the enemy’s base. Their fast movement speed allows them to get around the map quickly, which is an excellent trait to have if you want to snipe your enemy’s base.

Plus, if you lose the unit, it really isn’t that big of a deal. Crawlers are made to be expendable. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t upgrade them, however. Whenever you use Crawlers, always get the Subterranean Blitz upgrade, as it makes them exponentially more useful.

The Weaknesses of Crawlers and What You Should Avoid

Crawler Weaknesses

As was mentioned in the introduction, most units in-game can counter Crawlers. You should especially avoid units like the Vulcan, the Archlight, the Stormcaller, and the Overlord especially. These are the units that will give you a hard time, regardless of how many units of Crawlers you have.

Another thing you should avoid when using Crawlers is not using enough of them. The whole point of Crawlers is to overwhelm your opponent with numbers, that’s their greatest strength. If you don’t do that, you’re practically stripping yourself of their greatest strength.
