Key Takeaways for Mechabellum Beginner Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t forget to unlock new technologies for your units

Mechabellum isn’t an easy game to get into, but, with these Mechabellum beginners tips and tricks, you should be on your way to the big leagues in no time.

Auto-battlers as a game genre began way back in the day with Warcraft 3 mods. The mid to late 2000s was the golden era of the genre. From Naruto-themed auto-battlers to more traditional tower defense-esque auto-battlers; there was quite literally everything!

However, there was a particular Warcraft mod that would take the crown as the best Warcraft mod of all time – Defense of the Ancients, or, more commonly known as DotA. And, as a result of that, many other fledgling mods got overshadowed by DotA’s grandeur.

And yet, the auto-battler genre lived on! What’s more, it spawned many different games over the years, with Mechabellum being the latest (and possibly the greatest) so far.

Mechabellum Beginners Tips and Tricks

We understand. Tutorials are boring. They’re usually long and drawn out and nobody wants to play them. However, one of the tips I can give you is this – finish each mission in the tutorial before you start playing in multiplayer!

This might seem pretty obvious, but it’s actually really important to do so. Unlike some games, the tutorial in Mechabellum is quite detailed and will teach you all of the mechanics of the game. This will save you a lot of headaches having to learn them through experimentation.

It will also save you a lot of time in the long run. Instead of having to Google “how to do x”, you should simply play the tutorial.

Practice Against Bots To Figure Out Which Combos Suit You

Bots

Combos in Mechabellum aren’t a set of moves like in other games, but instead, the units that you use in tandem with each other. Mechabellum is really just a glorified game of rock-paper-scissors, as certain types of units counter other types of units.

Now, rock-paper-scissors only has 3 options that you can choose from. Mechabellum on the other hand has 16 options from which you can choose from.

One of the best Mechabellum tips and tricks is this. Before you get into your first multiplayer match, learn the strengths of each of the units and how they synergize with each other. It’s best to do that against bots, rather than real people.

Remember to Unlock New Tech With Your Tech Points

Tech Points

This is something that a lot of people forget to do as the game does a pretty poor job of explaining it. Each of the units has a special upgrade that’s locked when you first get into the game.

These upgrades can be unlocked with the Tech Points that you earn by playing matches. You don’t necessarily need to unlock these technologies, however, by unlocking them you basically give yourself an extra avenue of approach when dealing with certain situations.

To unlock these technologies, simply go to the Unit Modification tab in the main menu and select the unit you want to unlock a tech for. The tech modification is usually always at the bottom of the list.

Mechabellum Isn’t Quantity vs Quality, But Quantity or Quality

Quality vs Quantity

Lots of new players are under the misconception that to be effective in the game you have to either settle for quantity or quality. This however is not true, as the optimal way to go is to balance those two approaches.

This discussion stems from the way in which Mechabellum does units. You either have powerful single-entity units, small squadrons of mediocre units, or large quantities of mob units. This kind of division is the reason why the whole quantity vs quality debate began in the first place.

Yet, here’s the thing. As we mentioned previously, Mechabellum is a big game of rock-paper-scissors; as such, every unit has multiple counters to it. Your goal for each match should be to choose the best possible counter to the situation you’re faced with.

Let’s give an example. Melting Point is a great unit for taking out Overlords, however, it struggles against multiple entities. If your goal is to take out an Overlord, it’s much better to go for a unit of Mustangs, as Mustangs are just as effective at taking out an Overlord and are great all-around units as well.

Every problem in Mechabellum has multiple solutions. So, if you want to win the most matches possible, you’re going to have to train your intuition to recognize which solution is the most fitting for the problem at hand.
