Key Takeaways

  • Lucio’s best maps are ones like Dorado which feature high ground, short sightlines, and lots of natural cover. On these types of maps, his agility allows him to threaten and cut off players all across the map.
  • Lucio’s worst maps are wide open with very little natural cover, such as Junkertown Point A and Point C. If he’s exposed, he’s easily bursted down, and a lack of walls greatly hinders his mobility tools.
  • Lucio counters dive heroes like Winston and Genji thanks to his passive healing aura, which easily protects himself and nearby allies.
  • Lucio is countered by heroes like Cassidy, who are able to burst him down from both short- and medium-range when he exposes himself with his movement around the map.

Lucio Quick Tips

  • Lucio has 200 total health, with no armor or shields.
  • Although it’s tempting to constantly go for sneaky environmental kills with his ability to boop, that’s a strategy that becomes far less effective as you climb the ranks.
  • Lucio’s primary strength is his speed boost ability, which he can provide without actively using any ability, let alone an ultimate. Playing Lucio as a healbot can tip the match in your opponent’s favor if their supports are taking a more active role in their team’s success.

Wall Ride (Passive)

Wall Ride allows Lucio to ride along walls, as the name suggests. Hold jump while next to a wall and you will “attach” to the wall. Lucio’s speed is increased by 30% while Wall Ride is active, and he can gain additional speed by using momentum and jumping between walls.

Overwatch 2 has inconsistent map geometry, meaning many walls that look flat may actually contain small objects that break Lucio’s Wall Ride. Understanding how to navigate important walls on each map comes with experience.

Sonic Amplifier (Primary Fire)

Sonic Amplifier shoots a burst of four projectile rounds, with each projectile doing 20 damage. The ability is difficult to aim due to the slow travel speed of the projectile, but at close range it can deal significant damage quickly if every projectile hits, especially if one or more are headshots.

Soundwave

Soundwave damages opponents for 25 health and boops them back a short distance. Despite its simplicity, Soundwave is an important part of Lucio’s kit. Small readjustments to enemy players can make them vulnerable quickly and unexpectedly.

Crossfade

Crossfade either heals for 16 damage per second (10 for Lucio himself) or provides a 25% movement buff to Lucio and allies within a 12 meter radius. Switching between buffs (“songs”) is nearly instantaneous, meaning skilled Lucio players are constantly looking for opportunities to provide clutch speed to allies, while also doing his part to keep the team topped up and healthy.

Amp It Up

Amp It Up increases the effects of Crossfade—the movement speed buff climbs to 60% and healing climbs to 52 healing per second for allies and 32 healing per second for Lucio himself. Amp It Up has the potential to turn the tide of a teamfight, either by delivering clutch healing to one or multiple allies or enabling teammates to close the gap more easily with the speed buff. Lucio is far more vulnerable if he has Amp It Up on cooldown as he cannot deliver burst healing or provide himself with a reliable escape option via speed.

Sound Barrier (Ultimate)

Sound Barrier is a simple but powerful ultimate ability that provides 750 overhealth to all allies within its wide 30 meter radius. Usually, Sound Barrier is used in a defensive fashion to shut down enemy ultimates, but it can be used aggressively in niche situations to overwhelm the enemy team, especially when combined with Amp It Up’s 60% speed boost.
