Genshin Impact, with its vast open world, immersive gameplay, and captivating storyline, keeps players hinged for more. One of the key gameplay mechanics that sets it apart is its elemental system, where players can harness the power of different elements and unleash powerful elemental reactions.

In Genshin Impact, there are seven different elements: Pyro (fire), Hydro (water), Anemo (wind), Electro (electricity), Dendro (nature), Cryo (ice) and Geo (earth). Each of these elements possesses its own unique properties and can interact with another one to create unique elemental reactions. An understanding of how these elements work is crucial for effective team compositions and efficient damage output.

In this article, we will be delving into various elemental reactions in Genshin Impact and their effects.

Crystallize (Geo + Cryo/Electro/Hydro/Pyro)

The Crystallize reaction occurs when the Geo element interacts with Cryo, Electro, Hydro, or Pyro. When a character releases a Geo attack in the presence of one of these elements, it forms a protective crystal shield. This shield can absorb any damage headed your way, providing additional protection to your character. The shield can be more useful if you use it against attacks from the same element i.e Pyro shield for Pyro attack.

Electro-Charged (Electro + Hydro)

Combining these diametric elements gives you an Electro-Charged reaction. This reaction creates an electrified state that deals repeated Electro damage to your opponents and proves immensely fruitful against enemies that are wet or affected by Hydro attacks.

Frozen (Cryo + Hydro)

This reaction is the result of a gratifying interaction between the Cryo and Hydro elements. When a target is hit with Cryo and then exposed to Hydro, it ends up frozen in its place, temporarily immobilised. Upon striking this attack on your enemies with Claymores or Geo skills, you will activate the Shattered reaction. This infuses additional physical damage alongside your primary attack.

Melt (Cryo + Pyro)

This is one of the most powerful elemental reactions in Genshin Impact. Melt occurs when the Cryo and Pyro elements combine, amplifying the damage dealt by either element. This reaction, along with Vaporize, can cause considerable damage in the battleground.

Vaporize (Hydro + Pyro)

This reaction used along Melt, in whatever sequence you prefer, can be immensely deleterious for your opponents. While utilising these reactions, if you apply Cryo first, the target takes increased damage from Pyro, and if Hydro is applied first, the target takes increased damage from Pyro. Either way, you end up with good damage output.

Overload (Pyro + Electro)

The combination of Pyro and Electro elements triggers the Overload reaction. This reaction unleashes a powerful explosion that deals AoE Pyro damage to nearby enemies. It’s particularly useful for crowd control and dealing damage to enemies in groups. It can yield tons of damage when used appropriately.
