A few days ago we wrote about the return of Infected, a popular custom game mode for Call of Duty Multiplayer. It seems like the party continues with Call of Duty going back into its bag of goodies to bring back popular formats with cryptic ‘confirmation’ that gun game will be making a return with Modern Warfare Season 2:
Gun Game first debuted with Call of Duty: Black Ops. The gist of the game is all about climbing different tiers of weapons in a 6-player free for all. Players start with a basic weapon and with each subsequent kill, they receive an upgrade until such a time where a player ascends all tiers or time runs out (where the highest tiered player wins).
It’s very clear that Infinity Ward is reverting to what has historically worked given the negative feedback they’ve received from the launch of Warzone 2 and the new game mechanics that followed. While this may bring back Call of Duty players that are nostalgic for the game modes that they grew up with, what will happen to innovation in new formats? Will it be hampered by this period of unease and apprehension in trying new things from a fear of public backlash?
