Smite’s Sun Wukong is just one more interpretation of what the Monkey King did in his many misadventures. Well, somehow along the way he landed in Smite… and set the bar for what an incredible tank should be. Get it, set the bar?

Ok, horrible puns aside; Sun Wukong is probably one of the best tanks in Smite, and most definitely one of the best Smite Gods overall.

Do you share that sentiment, however? Let us know in the comments below or on the Z League app.

Key Takeaways for Smite Sun Wukong Guide

  • Sun Wukong is probably one of the better tanks in the game
  • He shines in the sub 50% range, so don’t be scared to get in a fight at low HP
  • The most optimal build for Sun Wukong is a mix between Physical Power items and Protection items

Sun Wukong Abilities

Sun Wukon’s passive is Undefeated Body. Whenever Sun Wukong goes below 50% of his maximum HP he gains +10 Physical Power as well as +10 to his Protections; this is further increased by 2 for each level-up. If he heals above 50% he still gets to keep this bonus for 12 seconds.

One of the greatest tricks Sun Wukong could do is extend his cudgel, which is exactly what his first ability is. Sun Wukong extends his cudgel and slams it down onto the ground in front of him, damaging any enemies caught in it.

Master’s Will is his second ability, it’s the usual AoE ability that you see with many other Gods. Sun Wukong strikes around him damaging and slowing any enemies that are caught within the radius.

72 Transformations is his third ability and probably one of the coolest abilities in the game. It’s a charge ability, nothing unusual there; however, depending on where you click on the line as it stretches forward, you will either transform into an eagle, a tiger, or an ox. The eagle is the fastest of the three forms and slows as well as roots any enemies caught. The tiger mauls and stuns the first enemy it comes into contact with, causing major damage. And finally, the Ox charges forward and knocks aside any enemies caught in its path.

His ultimate is Somersault Cloud. When activated, Sun Wukong leaps into the clouds and leaves behind a copy of himself to fight in his stead. If you activate the ability again you can do a somersault, crashing onto the enemy and dealing a lot of damage. Plus, you get to tag team the enemies with your clone for a few seconds.

Ideal Sun Wukong Build

Sun Wukong Build

While you can build out Sun Wukong with maximum Physical Power in mind, it’s smart to get a few items that further bolsters his passive. With Sun Wukong you’re probably going to be a solo lane, so here’s what you should get.

Your starters should be a Bluestone Pendant along with a Spiked Gauntlet and a Chalice of Healing. For relics, go with Purification Beads and a Cloak of Meditation which you should eventually upgrade into a Cloak of the Ascetic.

Later you should upgrade those into the Bluestone Brooch and a Soul Eater. Get to building up those stacks. Follow those through by getting a Gladiator’s Shield, a Genji’s Guard, an Archdruid’s Fury, and finally, an Abyssal Stone. With this combination of items, you should have the perfect balance of survivability and offensive capabilities, especially if you build up the stacks with the Soul Eater.

Tips for Playing With Sun Wukong

  • Use your transformation ability with consideration to the situation at hand: the tiger is good for finishing off enemies, the eagle is good for initiating team fights, and the ox is good for disrupting fleeing enemies.
  • In a pinch, your ultimate can be used to get away from a sticky situation
  • Use your chalice of healing only when you are about to die, Sun Wukong shines in the sub-50% health range.
