With the confirmation of Warzone 2 Season 2 release date came a slew of related content changes. We cover several of these adjustments in our Season 2: What We Know So Far article. Among the changes announced by Infinity Ward for Season 2 is the Gulag:
Players who are familiar with the Gulag mechanic in Warzone 2 will know that the Gulag received some major changes since Warzone 1. This includes the default 2v2 option as well as the Jailer. Players can respawn from the Gulag by either winning the 2v2 or killing the jailer. The latter mechanic allows all players in the Gulag to respawn. Given Infinity Ward’s announcement, what could we potentially expect for the Gulag in Season 2?
Bringing back 1v1
It can be fairly frustrating to land in the Gulag only to find out that your team member isn’t pulling their weight (or even trying at all), which effectively creates 1v2 scenarios. The other complexity is that filling 2v2 gulag brackets fairly can be a challenge as it’s likely that Gulag bouts are staged as players enter the Gulag queue, which means that it’s possible to have imbalanced teams. With this in mind, we could see the return of 1v1 as the default Gulag game mode so players can only blame themselves for their poor performance!
A new Gulag map
In the original warzone we saw several iterations of Gulag maps. It could be possible that the Gulag map will get a refresh for Season 2 however, this was usually reserved for every 2 or 3 seasons in the original game, so it’s more likely that we’ll see a new Gulag map in Warzone 2 Season 3 or 4.
