Split Overview

Split was one of the first maps that people could play on in the Valorant closed beta. This is why it holds a special place in the hearts of all early Valorant adopters. However, it’s not just the nostalgia speaking; Split is a pretty solid map, especially after the numerous changes that it has gone through.

It’s also a beautiful map set in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Kantō, Japan, and reflects that battle of the people vs. a powerful corporation like Kingdom. There is a small middle area that literally cuts the map in half. It’s connected to B via mail and A via vents, making this a crucial area that you need to control. It’s also the map that first used the ropes that we all know and love today.

Common Attacking Strategies

One of the best ways to attack on Split is by simply splitting up. 2-3 members play from main, then the rest play on mid. Getting mid control is crucial on the map because it unlocks a ton of areas for your team.

Lurking is also great on the map. The map offers fast rotations for defenders, making them want to easily rotate to the other side. If the lurk is well-timed, you can get a ton of free kills from rotating defenders and create a ton of extra space for your team.

Common Defending Strategies

You’ll mainly want two people holding mid. One from vents and the other from mail. This way, the mail player can help the B site defenders, and the vents player can help the A site defenders.

One player should be playing on B site, ideally, a Sentinel. Over on the A site, one player should be holding ramps/heaven, and the other should be holding site. This positioning allows for quick rotates for easy reinforcements when needed.

Best Agents on Split

Now, let’s take a look at some of the best Agents you can use on Split.

Viper

Up first, we have Viper. Traditional smokers can have a hard time blocking all of the angles on the map. This is where a wall-based Controller like Viper comes in. Her Toxic Screen is perfect for cutting off sight lines from both heaven areas, allowing her team to safely enter the site.

Sage

Sage is a must-have Agent on Split. Her wall is extremely powerful for controlling the middle area and, when followed with her Slow Orbs, make it very hard to contest. Her Barrier Orb also comes in clutch when attacking, serving as a shield for her allies.

Killjoy

Killjoy is in excellent shape right now. She’s hands down one of the best Valorant Agents in the current meta and excels on this map as well. Her setup on A site makes it a nightmare to attack. You’re pretty guaranteed to die if you rush into the site and run into her Nanoswarm-Alarmbot combo.

Raze

Raze is a solid pick for Split because of her ability to instantly blast herself onto the site. She also counters a lot of the top Agents on the map, like Killjoy, Sage, and Cypher. Her utility is a godsend on the map since she can easily check close corners and force enemies out of hiding.

Gekko

The final Agent for this guide is Gekko. Gekko’s kit is incredible at this map. He can use Wingman to plant or defuse the Spike from a variety of places because of all the different sight lines toward the plant area. His blind, molly, and even ultimate also shine, thanks to the close and tight spaces found all around the map.
