Whether you are gearing up for a marathon session to take down a final boss, or are playing a few games of Madden with your friends, chances are you are going to want something to eat while gaming. You have unlimited options when it comes to snacks for gaming. But that doesn’t mean that all snacks are created equal.

While the stereotypical gamer snacks may be Doritos washed down with a Mountain Dew, you don’t have to limit yourself to those options (not that there is anything wrong with those options!). Here are our top 5 snacks for your next gaming session, guaranteed to power you through whatever mission is in your way!

5. Chips

Chips are a classic snack for gaming, and one that everyone probably already has in their home. One great thing about chips is that they come in so many varieties. You have hundreds of choices when it comes to flavor, shape, and how messy you want your fingers to be. Warning, getting cool ranch seasoning off of a keyboard is not easy! But can anything dethrone that classic blue bag?

If your go-to is chips, but want to make your own or try a healthier alternative, try cutting up some pita bread and baking it to make your own pita chips! They go great with any dip!

4. Beef Jerky

Beef jerky is a great option to get some protein in while gaming. There are tons of flavor options and brands out there, but they are not all created equal. Look out for jerky flavors that are packed with sugar, because you want to avoid the crash that comes with that.

Feel free to experiment with other types of jerky as well. Some companies get as exotic as alligator or ostrich jerky! Mix in a string cheese for even more added flavor!

3. Noodles

Looking for more than a snack, but not a full meal? Noodles fill this spot perfectly! The classic Cup Noodles definitely hits the spot on a cold day. But it’s also super easy to add your own toppings to class things up a bit! Scrambled or fried egg and chili oil are a great place to start.

Another great thing about noodles is you eat them with a spoon or fork (depending on the type), so your hands and controller/keyboard stay clean!

2. Guacamole

Is throwing in a dip as a snack for gaming cheating when we already included chips? Maybe. But guacamole (and avocados in general) is a super food that will have you speed running Breath of the Wild (that may be an exaggeration).

However, guacamole (or just avocados if you prefer), is full of healthy fats and will give you that boost of energy you need to run through a Warzone DMZ session. Plus, you get the added benefit of getting to mix in chips, our #5 snack for gaming. Who doesn’t love bonus content?

1. Mixed Nuts

Nuts are an awesome pick to fuel your body for a marathon gaming session. And yes, we know peanuts are legumes. But we are counting them anyway!

Packed with healthy nutrients and fats, nuts or nut butter will keep you full and fueled while youcamo grind on MW2. Some nuts, such as walnuts and macadamia nuts have even been shown to support your brain! So those 200 IQ plays can become 300 IQ plays in no time!

P.S., if you are allergic to nuts, try sunflower seeds instead!

Bonus snack: Water

Ok, water is not a snack. But just because you’re having a marathon gaming session and not running an actual marathon doesn’t mean you can skip hydration! Energy drinks and soda may give you a quick boost, but usually come with a rough crash.

Water is always going to be the king of keeping you hydrated and feeling refreshed. So make sure you make water a staple snack for gaming!
