Icebox was released on October 13, 2020, as part of the Episode 1, Act 3 update. It’s located in Bennett Island, Sakha, Far Eastern Federal District, Russia, in a port where the Kingdom Corporation conducts its business.

It’s one of the maps with a well-executed theme, evident all over the map. It features two plant sites, with an average-sized middle area that connects both sites. What makes the mapo so fun are all the tricky angles, the implementation of verticality, and plenty of covers.

Common Attacking Strategies

Icebox is a pretty attacker-sided map. Most executes are pretty much rushes and involve overpowering the defenders through sheer numbers. You can also split between mid and A main to cover area much quicker, but splitting toward maze and generator from A main should work just as well.

B site attacks are a whole different story. The chokepoint at B main is much harder to rush, which is where methodological clearing and proper ability usage are required. This is something that makes the map unique. The two sites require vastly different strategies, giving a different experience every time.

Common Defending Strategies

For defenders, it’s common to have a 2-1-2 split. You’ll have two players watching A site, usually one playing close around maze or default, and another holding the long Op angles from rafters. A single player to hold mid and kitchen, usually a Sentinel, to help with watching multiple areas.

Finally, have two players on the B site. You’ll also want to use utility early to gather as much information as you can. This helps out with rotations and being able to properly defend the site.

Best Agents on Icebox

Here are a couple of Agents that we highly recommend on Icebox.

Viper

There are tons of angles to watch on Icebox. This makes it hard for smoke-based Controllers to block all of them off. This is where Viper comes in. Her Toxic Screen can block off all angles without any problems. Her Viper’s Pit can also make it impossible to retake a site, making her a solid choice on the map.

Jett

Jett is a great Duelist choice because of her insane entry-fragging capability. Her Tailwing and Updraft combo is just so powerful, especially on a fast-paced map like Icebox. She can also defend well with an Operator, perfect for those long-range angles.

Sova

Gathering information is a crucial ability that your team needs to have on Icebox. There’s no one better at gathering information than Sova. Sova can use his Recon Bolt on walls, allowing him to scan a wide area with ease. Follow it up with an Owl Drone, and you’re looking at a free path to the site.

KAY/O

KAY/O excels in the fast-paced combat that Icebox promotes. He can use his ZERO/point to gather information and nullify enemies. He can also entry frag for his team using flashes and his ultimate. This makes him a valuable addition and a solid choice.

Sage

To finalize our list, we have Sage. Sage’s Barrier Orb is an insanely valuable skill on Icebox. It’s great at delaying enemies from entering A site but is best used at tube to lock it off completely. Her slows can also help with rushes, and her heals are crucial for all the skirmishes her team will take.
