Key Takeaways

  • You can emote, use sprays, and use custom voice wheel commands through the communication interface.
  • You can modify the interface controls to easily use your favorite emotes and sprays in Overwatch 2.
  • Emoting and using custom communication lines takes time, so make sure you’re safe from enemies before you do it.
  • Overwatch is the most fun with friends. Use the Z League app to find teammates who play the same game you do!

How to Emote in Overwatch 2

If you’re on console, press the upwards direction on the D-Pad and hold it. A quadrant will appear with all of your equipped emotes. Use the left joystick to select the emote you want to use. Once it’s selected, release the D-Pad and your hero will use the emote of your choosing. To emote on PC, use the same process but move your mouse over the emote you’d like to use.

Equipping Custom Emotes

By default, you will only be able to use the standard emote for any hero. Even if you unlock new emotes, those emotes will not be available to use unless you equip them.

To equip them, head to the Hero Gallery and navigate to the hero you’d like to equip emotes for. Under Emotes, select the emote you’d like to make available. Once selected, you’ll get the option to set it to a particular slot on your Emote wheel. Make your selection and close the menu, then your new emote will be available to use.

Out of all of the heroes, Mercy, Cassidy, and Tracer all have many custom emotes to choose from.

How to Use Sprays in Overwatch 2

To use a spray in Overwatch 2, follow the same instructions as above, except bring up the Spray wheel instead of the emote wheel, and equip custom sprays instead of emotes if you’d like to use them.

Sprays need to be placed on a surface, so if you want to use a spray, you need to be looking at the walls, ceiling, or floor. If you attempt to use a spray but you’re not close enough to a surface, nothing will happen. The problem isn’t necessarily with your spray or your commands, but rather a simple error with how close you are to a surface.

Since each Overwatch character can use any of the general sprays, you have more options available than you do with emotes. Choose wisely!

How to Say “Yes” and “No”

In Overwatch 2, the default voice communication wheel has eight options to choose from, including “Understood.”, “Thanks!”, and more. These commands are easily accessible from the default menu.

It’s also possible to use more commands than just the default ones, but not if you use the default settings. Special commands include “Yes.”, “No.”, “Go!”, and others. They can be very useful if you want to communicate with your team but you don’t have voice chat enabled.

If you want to use a voice command outside of the default menu, you need to set a particular binding for that voice command. To set a particular binding, go to the Options menu and select the hero you’d like to modify your settings for. In the left sidebar, scroll down to “Communication”. From there, select the command you’d like to be able to access and bind it to the key of your choosing.

At times, you may use a custom voice command if you try to stay “Understood.” but you’re looking at the objective. The reason for this has to do with how Overwatch 2 sometimes changes your voice commands depending on if you’re looking at the objective or not.
