  • You can hide your rank from other players and prevent them from seeing what rank you are. This option can help you stay more private and even win competitive games.
  • If you want to improve your rank, download the free Z League app and find skilled teammates who will help you climb.

Rank vs. Level: What’s the Difference?

In Overwatch 2, you have both a rank and a level. Your level is the easiest to understand. Whenever you play, regardless of whether you win or lose, you get experience. Experience causes you to level up. A player’s level is not prominently displayed in Overwatch 2.

Most of the focus is on completing the Battle Pass, which has another separate level. In the Battle Pass, each level requires 10,000 experience, whereas your overall level requires a different amount of experience for each level. Your Battle Pass level resets whenever a new Battle Pass becomes available.

Rank is a reflection of your skill level in a certain Competitive playlist. Winning is the only way to improve your rank. Simply playing games is not a guarantee of ranking up, and you can easily lose games and decrease your rank.

There are four Competitive playlists where you have a rank—Damage, Tank, and Support playlists for Role Queue, as well as your rank for Open Queue. Every rank is equally valid, though Role Queue is generally seen as the more prestigious rank due to the larger player base. Some players also think it’s more impressive to rank up on heroes like Sigma and Widowmaker over heroes like Mercy.

Check Your Overwatch 2 Rank in Your Career Profile

Your Career Profile is the home of your Overwatch 2 rank. To navigate to your Career Profile, go to the main menu screen and press Esc (for PC) or Start (for console). From the menu that pops up, select “Career Profile”.

In your Career Profile, you’ll see your rank for each role in the current Competitive season as well as Open Queue. To see your ranks for past competitive seasons, simply select the season you want to analyze from the menu bar above your ranks.

Underneath each rank, you’ll see a small number. This number indicates your tier within your rank. Within each rank there are five tiers. Tier 1 is closest to the rank above it, and Tier 5 is closest to the rank below it. So, although a Masters 5 and a Masters 1 player are both technically Masters players, a Masters 1 player has a higher rank.

Hide Your Overwatch 2 Rank from Friends, Random People, or Everyone

In Overwatch 2, there are a variety of reasons why you might want to hide your rank from other players. You may just want to stay private and prevent random players from harassing you. Hiding your rank can also serve a strategic benefit, because by hiding your rank you also hide your playtime stats for each hero. Playtime stats can help the enemy team counter you before you leave the spawn door, especially if you like to one-trick a certain hero.

To hide your rank and prevent other players from checking it, go to the Options menu, then go to the Privacy tab. You can hide your Career Profile from everyone, or allow access to just your friends and/or group. Hiding your Career Profile does not prevent you from checking your rank.
