With the launch of Warzone 2.0 we also received the brand new DMZ game mode. While played on the same Al Mazrah map as Warzone 2.0’s Battle Royale game mode, DMZ is much slower paced and tactical. You will need to rely more on decision making than brute force. After loading into the map with both other players and AI, you can complete missions and contracts, or loot buildings and POIs for strong weapons and gear.

If you haven’t played DMZ yet, or are struggling getting the hang of this new game mode, we are here to help! Keep reading for some useful tips in getting started with your DMZ experience!

Overview

In the brand new DMZ game mode you can deploy solo or in a squad of up to 3 players. You will be randomly placed in Al Mazrah with a seemingly never ending supply of AI bots who are defending high profile areas, as well as teams of other players who are just as inclined to kill you and take your loot as they are to help you.

Your goal is to loot for valuable weapons and gear, while completing contracts and missions.

You control how risky you want to play, but remember, the better the loot, the more protected it will be, and the more players will be after it!

DMZ Weapons

One of the most important decisions you will have to make in DMZ happens before you even ready up and deploy into Al Mazrah. This is of course your decision when it comes to what weapons and equipment you want to bring in with you.

Your weapons can be broken into 2 categories: insured weapon slot and contraband.

Contraband Weapons

Weapons that you pick up while playing DMZ and extract by having them in one of your weapon slots when you successfully exfil. You cannot customize contraband weapons, and dying with them or leaving them behind means they are gone forever. One benefit to extracting different contraband weapons is that it will unlock that blueprint for you to use across all of Modern Warfare and Warzone 2.0, even if you have not unlocked that weapon yet.

Insured weapons

You start off with one insured weapon slot, and can unlock up to three by completing different tiers of faction missions. Your insured weapon can be customized with any attachments you have unlocked for that weapon. Dying with or leaving behind an insured weapon will not cause you to lose it forever. However, that insured weapon slot will now be on a cooldown for up to 120 minutes.

Due to the large amount of AI to fight and XP to earn within DMZ, using your insured weapon slot on a weapon you want to level up is a great idea if you are not too focused on completing any of the high profile missions or contracts within the game mode.

What to do in DMZ

Once you deploy, you can check out the map to find where contracts and strongholds have spawned throughout Al Mazrah.

Strongholds will be indicated by the castle looking icon on the map, and can be entered using a stronghold key. You can find a stronghold key by looting, as well as randomly off the body of AIs you kill. If you are planning on taking down a stronghold, be prepared for a difficult fight against fully loaded AIs. These are not your average campaign bots, and can down you quickly. Going in with a pistol and single plate vest may send you back to the lobby pretty quick. Taking down the stronghold will will reward you with high value loot and strong weapons.

If strongholds are too easy for you, take on one of the commanders to secure some seriously high value loot. Currently you can take on the Juggernaut, the Chemist, or the Commander Helicopter. Taking down these commanders are not easy, as they are not only heavily armored, but also heavily guarded. If you are able to take one down, you will be rewarded with rare loot to exfil with.

Killing The Chemist will a drop his M13B blueprint. Exfil with this gun to unlock it for use across WZ2 and MW2.

If you would prefer to play passively, you can choose to loot buildings around the outskirts of the map. You can find some valuable loot this way, including high quality gear, or valuable items. Selling loot at a buy box will give you cash. You can use the cash to buy gear, weapons, and killstreaks.

DMZ Faction Missions

While looting and killing AIs is undoubtedly fun, the main goal in DMZ is to complete the different faction missions.

Before deploying you will be able to select up to 3 different missions to complete while in the game. DMZ has 3 different factions you can select missions for – Legion, White Lotus, and Black Mous. Each faction has different tiers of missions. Completing all missions in a tier will unlock the next tier. Depending on which missions you select, you may want to edit your loadout accordingly. Some missions require you to complete a task in game, while others require to successfully exfil with certain items.

Working with your team can help to accomplish missions more quickly than if you go at them alone. If you need to get a certain amount of kills at a specific POI, all of your team’s kills will count towards your mission, as long as you have it selected. In order for a mission to count, it needs to be selected before deploying.
