The much-awaited Warzone 2 was finally launched on November 16, 2022, and it definitely breathes new life to Call of Duty’s freely available battle royale game series. Things are a little bit different as the game returns with a whole new map, so gamers can also expect to learn some newly introduced game mechanics. The game is full of action, as always, but the new release brings a new dimension to fighting with its vehicular combat. Considering the Warzone 2 map size, players are likely to be immersed in an intense combat against enemies from cars, armored tanks, and aircraft.

The brand new Warzone 2 map is called Al Mazrah, and it’s quite distinct from Verdansk and Caldera. It’s set in Al Mazrah, a vast region nestled in the fictional republic of Adal, which is loosely based in the Middle East. With winding rivers cutting across the barren landscape, the geography provides the perfect locations for brand-new aquatic combat mechanics. There are also new cities, landmarks, and ancient ruins, and you can bet you’ll have plenty of locations and points of interest (POIs) to explore.

Modern Warfare 2 players who dabbled in the “Recon by Fire” campaign might be familiar with some of these POIs, as detailed in other potential new maps that leaked online shortly after the game’s launch. Even so, if you want to drop into Warzone 2.0, it’s best to familiarize yourself with the map. This guide summarizes the insights we’ve gathered about Al Mazrah thus far, including the map size and POIs.

Warzone 2 Map Size

Al Mazrah is significantly larger than Verdansk. It’s the most extensive map in CoD’s history, accommodating 150 players per match. Its vastness means that vehicular transport is of the essence, but we are yet to see whether this expansion in map size will impact the game’s weaponry.

Warzone 2 Map Points of Interest (POIs)

The Warzone 2 map is divided into six sectors, which are further subdivided into zones – the smallest land unit in Al Mazrah and the ones that bring you close to various POIs.

Sector 1: Northwest Al Mazrah

In Al Mazrah’s northwest region, players will discover a vast landscape with roadside ruins, oases, and construction sites. Sector 1 is divided into five zones with various POIs. They include:

  • Zone 1 – Oasis
  • Zone 2 – Taraq Village
  • Zone 3 – Western Foothills
  • Zone 4 – Rohan Oil Refinery
  • Zone 5 – Al Safwa Quarry

Among these zones, Taraq Village, Rohan Oil Refinery, and Al Safwa Quarry are the three major points of interest.

Taraq village seems like the safest place to drop in for a quick ambush and looting spree. It has several structures that offer the best cover, vantage points, and hiding spaces.

Rohan Oil Refinery is the place to be if you’re out for trouble and fast fights. Unlike Taraq, the refinery is an open area with tents and staff housing units on the side. However, be vigilant, as trigger-happy snipers usually climb up the silos and tanks to better aim at you.

Like Rohan Oil, Al Safwa is an expansive industrial area tucked deep in Al Mazrah’s western foothills. Players can access several vantage points, but if you want to catch enemies in the open, it would be best to drop in the Upper Mountain Compound.

Sector 2: Northeast Al Mazrah

Sector 2 lies in the northeastern corner of Al Mazrah and is the region’s most densely populated Metro Area. There are many building structures to explore here, including a police station, highrise buildings, and an embassy, making it an important center on the map.

It’s subdivided into eight zones:

  • Zone 1 – North Industrial Area
  • Zone 2 – Western City Limits
  • Zone 3 – Al Mazrah City
  • Zone 4 – Eastern City Limits
  • Zone 5 – Southern City Limits
  • Zone 6 -Zarqwa Hydroelectric
  • Zone 7 – Mawizeh Marshlands
  • Zone 8 – East Suburbs

If the crowded city restricts your exploration, head out to East Suburbs, a quainter neighborhood perfect for looting and causing trouble. The location boasts a strip mall, a market, and a freeway that links various parts of the town.

Another must-know location is Zarqwa Hydroelectric. The village features historical sites, industrial buildings, and residential complexes. Its central location on the map makes it a strategic spot for straggling ops and squads to converge once the ring closes.

Sector 3: West Al Mazrah

Sector 3 is divided into three zones:

  • Zone 1 – Sattiq Cave Complex
  • Zone 2 -Hafid Port
  • Zone 3 – Sa’id City

There is a deep, vast network of underground tunnels spread beneath the town of Sattiq. The Sattiq Cave Complex is the ideal place to sit tight and attack opponents unfamiliar with the complex’s maze-like construction.

Outside the cave complex, you’ll find rundown towns and outposts, but if you want to venture to coastal locations, head to Hafid Port or Sa’id City, where you’ll find landmarks, such as the Oil Jetty and a Soccer Stadium, respectively.

Sector 4: Zaya Observatory and Mountains

Sector 4 is the central-most region in Al Mazrah, bordered by all the other sectors except Sector 1. It has four zones:

  • Zone 1 – Northwest Mountain
  • Zone 2 – Zaya Observatory
  • Zone 3 – Al Sharim Pass
  • Zone 4 – Ahkdar Village

Dropping at Sector 4 is challenging, considering it’s landlocked between four other sectors. Once the circle closes, you can expect many players to pass through this region.

A mid-game hot spot, Sector 4 provides gamers with the perfect positions at the Zaya Observatory or Ahkdar Village.

The Zaya Observatory is the highest point on the new Warzone 2.0 map, providing a great vantage point over the entire Al Mazrah region. Once you’ve neutralized initial enemy lines in this section, opponents will have a difficult journey accessing the area’s main hub, thanks to the zig-zag roads, bridges, and rugged terrain.

Ahkdar Village is a World Heritage Site with fascinating landmarks: a grand bazaar, a central courtyard, and modern apartments. The village’s tight alleyways and labyrinths mean players can walk into unexpected encounters with close-range gunfights.

Sector 5: Southwest Al Mazrah

Sector 5 is the most desolate part of the new Warzone 2 map, with only two major landmarks in each of its two zones.

  • Zone 1 – El Samman Cemetery
  • Zone 2 – Sawah Village

It’s the best drop zone when players want to catch a breath or cool off from fights to explore the game longer.

El Samman is a walled cemetery and acts as the primary drop point in the southwestern region. Its strategic position provides access to other residential structures surrounding the place, making Sector 5’s Zone A a great spot for extra looting.

The sunken Sawah Village – Al Mazrah’s very own Atlantis – lies a short distance south of the cemetery. The forgotten village is home to stand-alone landmarks like the abandoned Oil Tanker and the Covered Market.

Sector 6: South Al Mazrah

Covering Al Mazrah’s southern region, Sector 6 has three coastal zones:

  • Zone 1 – Sarrif Bay
  • Zone 2 – Al Malik Airport
  • Zone 3 – Al Bagra Fortress

Sarrif Bay features the usual inland residential areas and gas stations, but as you move to the coastal areas, several coastal landmarks come in sight, including Lighthouse Peninsula, a resort, and the Eastern Fishing Bay. Al Mazrah’s desert heat can be overwhelming. With swimming now being part of Warzone 2 gameplay, you and your squad can take a dip in the water and stealthily observe your opponents from the coast.

As players move southeast of Sarrif Bay, they’ll find Al Bagra Fortress – a walled island city. It’s conventionally accessed using a single roadway that combines the Bridge and Cistern Entrance. However, its short distance from the mainland makes it easy for one to swim to the city’s shores.

Al Malik Airport vaunts a more modernized environment with contemporary architectural designs, an airport terminal, multistory parking lots, retail stores, and of course, a control tower; needless to say that it’s a looter’s haven. However, when looting, it would be best to avoid the long dilapidated runway as enemies can easily spot you in the open area.
