Apex Legends Weapons Tiers: Key Takeaways

  • You can’t go wrong with the R-301, C.A.R., Devotion, Charge Rifle, and the EVA-8
  • Be sure to consider combinations so that you’re covered for both long-range and short-range
  • Consider your own playstyle — don’t be too aggressive to switch to a meta gun if it requires a significantly different engage pattern

RELATED: Best Warzone 2 Loadouts

As is the case with most games, you have to try and see what works for you, but it’s also apparent some weapon combos in Apex Legends definitely work better than others. Now, Apex Legends is unique among king-of-the-hill-type shooters. In games like Warzone 2, you have the ability to customize your loadout before a match begins. In Apex Legends, you don’t really have that privilege.

Now, you may also be wondering. “Ok, what makes Apex so unique then? Other king-of-the-hill-type shooters also don’t allow you to customize your loadout before a match?”

This is true, yet, Apex is unlike the other looter shooters in the sense that it has Legends with their own unique abilities and playstyles. It might seem like a minute detail at first, but it’s one of the defining features of the game, and can totally change how you would approach weapon combinations.

How the Different Legends Change the What’s the “Ideal Weapon Combo”

Every Legend in Apex Legends has different stats and abilities, because of this, some are better at aggressive plays, while others prefer a more relaxed approach.

As the old saying goes, “What’s good for the spider isn’t good for the fly.” The same can be said about the different Legends, what’s good for a Wraith player, isn’t necessarily good for a Vantage player. Wraith’s playstyle is much more aggressive and “in your face”, while Vantage players like to enjoy a nice warm cup of cocoa while picking you off from across the map. Because of this, some weapon combos end up being better than others. A Charge Rifle is much better at sniping than an R-99. Or in other words, you can nail a nail into the wall with a screwdriver, but it’s much easier if you’d just use a hammer instead.

Having said this, it’s important to note that this doesn’t mean you should only pick up the specific weapon combos that are most beneficial to your Legend; Apex Legends is a game where even the unconventional stands a chance at winning, so don’t be afraid to try out new combinations.

Now let’s take a look at which weapon combos work well together.

Charge Rifle + Devotion LMG

This combination works well for just about any Legend, you don’t even need to be playing a Legend that specializes in long-range combat. The Charge Rifle is extremely effective at long to middle range, while the Devotion is extremely effective at middle to short range… see where I’m going with this? With this specific combination, you can effectively put down effective fire at all ranges, and seeing as both weapons are the best guns in their respective types – you definitely won’t be disappointed by either.

C.A.R. SMG + R-301

The C.A.R. + R-301 combo is probably one of the most extremely aggressive weapon combos in the game. Its only shortfall however is that you can’t really engage enemies at longer distances, so you’ll be limited to mid to short range engagements only. But that isn’t an issue as you’re most likely to come out on top in most short range engagements anyways.

EVA-8 + R-99

An alternative to the previous combo would be the EVA-8 + R-99. This combination puts all its eggs in one basket as it specializes strictly in close-quarters engagements. You basically limit yourself to only short-range engagements, but you’ll be a dreadful opponent to come against.

G7 Scout + Nemesis Burst AR

With this combination, you’re practically specializing yourself in mid ranged engagements, yet not totally stripping yourself of your long range and short range capabilities. A fully kitted-out Scout is terrifying to come up against at any range, while the Nemesis likewise performs admirably at any range (if you have the right attachments that is). Yet, to be the most effective with this one, it’s preferable you keep your enemy at mid range from you.
