5 Reasons Viewers Dislike the Current Apex Legends Global Series Meta: Key Takeaways

  • Viewers cannot understand what’s happening at the late stages of the game due to the spam of ultimate abilities.
  • Catalyst is dominating the meta, in the final rings you see multiple black walls crossing each other.
  • Seer’s wallhack is still annoying and not fun to watch. Many viewers claim that he shouldn’t be playable for ALGS.
  • On the North American ALGS, almost every team is running the same comp, making the games less exciting when it comes to different strategies.

We’re three weeks into the Apex Legends Global Series and viewers are complaining about the current meta because of how difficult it is to understand what is going on, given the chaos of the game’s late stages. Since Season 16 started and the Legends Classes Rework was implemented, a new meta has taken over the pro scene. This meta has a lot to do with the “Control” class and its ability to scan rings. It also changes how these legends interact with others in a way that viewers don’t appreciate.

We’ve put together a list of the top 5 reasons viewers dislike the current ALGS meta.

The Chaos in the late stages of the game

The whole meta dynamic seems odd to most spectators. If you’re not used to it, it will be impossible to understand what’s going on.

Users compare this to what happened with Overwatch. Many people didn’t watch the Professional Leagues due to the number of ultimate abilities spamming onscreen.

Across the map, Bangalore’s smoke is always present, and there are a few places with never-ending green smoke where Caustics hide.End games are purely about shooting red diamonds and outlines against massive black walls that block every view of the map.

One of the main reasons why fans and pros are unhappy with the current meta is the Catalyst’s Wall.

She creates a black permeable wall of 55m in length and 8m in height in line with her reticle. Every final ring is filled with at least 3 of them crossing each other, making it challenging to enjoy. As a spectator, viewers encounter final rings full of visual mayhem, which is a terrible experience.

Seer’s Abilities

“Who thought that having a legend with literal wallhacks was such a brilliant idea?” Says a viewer on Reddit.

Seer has such a strong kit, that ever since he was released back in Season 10, he has been that rock in the shoe for Respawn.

Not even a few nerfs have made Seer a more balanced legend in the meta. Pros ALWAYS find creative interactions with his abilities that make game strategies less creative and therefore, more boring.

The Seer/Catalyst Interaction

Not being able to see anything and not understanding what’s going on is terrible, and having wallhacks and seeing everyone behind walls is even more awful.

But what’s worse? Their interactions.

In every single endgame not only do we see multiple enormous walls that block everything, but we also have Seer revealing enemies through the walls.

It all ends up looking like aim trainers, literally just shooting at highlighted diamonds instead of circles that hide behind black walls. Definitely not a pleasant viewing experience.

Lack of Diversity

Is Catalyst the problem? Is it Seer? Is it their interaction? Yeah, probably. But one thing most players and viewers agree on is that the current meta lacks balance overall.

This event occurs especially in the North American region where pros always use the same legend compositions and almost all of them always rely on the same strategies.

The current meta is not just boring. It is still the same old fun Apex we all love. But It’s just the fact that instead of enjoying the last few adrenaline minutes of the game. You’re just stuck with something that looks like a ’90s game with a black screen full of dots.

To make competitive games more entertaining, the game clearly needs some adjustments and perhaps a rework of Seer. Or maybe some rules and bans that will make the show a lot more fun for us, the viewers.

But what do you think about this? Give us your thoughts!
